What's G?

Gatorade has been running an ad campaign all month revolving around "What's G?"  What does G mean to you?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

One traditional definition o "G" has been used to refer to G Force or Gravity. More precisely the effect of the pull of the Earth's gravity on a body.

the Free Dictionary http://www.thefreedictionary.com/g-force says:
g-force
A force acting on a body as a result of acceleration or gravity, informally described in units of acceleration equal to one g. For example, a 12 pound object undergoing a g-force of 2g experiences 24 pounds of force. See more at acceleration of gravity.

They also have a page http://www.thefreedictionary.com/G
with some other meanings of "G".
For example:
G - one of the four nucleotides used in building DNA; all four nucleotides have a common phosphate group and a sugar (ribose)
G - the cardinal number that is the product of 10 and 100
G - a unit of information equal to 1000 megabytes or 10^9 (1,000,000,000) bytes

Aviators often refer to the effects of gravity on themselves and their aircraft during aerobatic maneuvers as "G". (Not to sound like "that guy" but...) Gatorade is just playing on the idea. To "Pull Gs" requires physical strength, endurance and concentration.

You can read more about the effects of G forces on the human body in flight here:

More than you want to know I suspect. :)
