What's everybody's view of the US winning the Americas Cup Yachting race for the first time since 1992?

The BMW Oracle Team won the Americas Cup for the USA today.

Financed by Larry Ellison, the CEO of Oracle and led by veteran yachtsman Russell Coutts the team holds an unassailable 2-0 lead in a best of 3 series.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I stayed up in 1983 to watch Australia II break the 132 year old tradition of America winning the America's Cup! (1) You know I still remember hearing the cheers from the homes around me....grief it was about 7am or so when the last race finished and Bob Hawke said on TV "Any boss who sacks a worker for not turning up today is a bum" (2) hehehe I miss Bob as PM.

Anyway, since that day the race is not as important to as many people - the tradition was broken and the 'hex' on challengers was broken. I mean that very generally, it certainly gets less news in Australia than it did in the 80s and 90s even if we are challenging but I must admit to being interested in the US getting their cup back :)

Yes, its about time folks! Russell Coutts is a great sailor - a deserved win for sure.

I am going to interpret "everybody's view" as meaning what do I think about it.
And the answer to that is, I'm happy to hear it!

I am not particularly interested in Yachting, but my father is a "big fan". Not of Yacht racing in particular, but of sailing. So it makes me happy to hear that America has again topped the highest level of the sport.

I am also a fan of technology and racing (mostly F1 on my end), so I appreciate the incredible level of both involved in winning such a race.

In short, I'm very happy to hear of the results and hope that the US can hold on to it in the coming years.

I went to Google's Keyword tool and I see the search volume for American's Cup is much lower than basketball. I believe hardly anyone could relate to Larry Ellison yearning to participate in a yacht race. Basketball is much more easier to go out and start playing.

I personally do not care who wins the Americai's Cup. I didn't know they were racing. It doesn't seem to be in news. People would probably have to go searching for news on it.
