What's are the top issues for someone running an IT department?
What are the hot issues in Businesses related to IT? What's top of mind for the department leader and what things are you asking of your team to investigate

The top issue right now is getting people into the IT department that actually know what they are doing. I have recently run into a number of people that are in charge of various companies IT dept. who really hardly know what they are talking about. I am not an IT manager but I do know the power of a good database.
One of the biggest problems in the IT world is that we are in dire need of systems and simplifying the steps required to get our tasks done - simplifying the work load to make the worker bees lives easier and more productive.
We are a generation that has been raised on feelings "how does that make you feel". Our parents didn't want to damage our self esteem and so we were all winners. We need to know how to cut through the BS and develop good simple databases and systems within our business structures to become more productive - even if that hurts someones feelings.
I know this is not specific but you may be able to tell I have had to deal with some IT BS this last week and so you caught my frustration.
