Whats a good resource for learning how to play the electric guitar?

About 3 years ago, I started to learn how to play the acoustic guitar and then bought an electric guitar. Unfortunately, life took over and I haven't touched it since. Are there any good resources for beginner electric guitar players?

Videos would be preferable and I do prefer tabs over chords, although both are ok with me. I have some idea of the basics, but I would love to have something to see, watch, or hear to help me along.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

  1. Homespun videos have some great DVD's for you to learn electrict guitar. From beginning to advanced, they have a video for you. I have purchased a couple of their videos to learn fingerstyle guitar and they were great.  Link is below in the "sources section."
  2. GuitarTricks.com is a great online source.  Lots of lessons and videos.  I bought a 3 month subscription for my niece and she seemed to get quite a bit out of it.
  3. Gibson has a section on their site with lesson from Arlen Roth
  4. Another online source is JamPlay.  I have never used them but have heard enough for it to deserve a mention.
With that said, you might want to look into a guitar teacher in your local area as well.  At least to give you feedback on how your doing. That is the only thing that these videos can't do, is give you feedback.

Quite honestly youtube is a fantastic source, whether it be a specific song you're trying to learn, or baby steps from the beginning. There are tutorials from beginner to advanced. If you want to learn tablature you can go to this website http://www.taborama.com
They have a "how to read tabs" section and a huge assortment of songs to choose from. Now this is all if you wanna do it on the cheap.

If, however, you are willing to drop some cash to improve your skills look in your local newspaper for guitar teachers (many of which will come to YOUR house) and give you the one on one teaching experience you just can't beat.
