What's a good replacement for Windows Search on XP? Google desktop is good but only does one thing.
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You have couple of options: Windows Desktop Search and Copernic Desktop Search.
Windows Search

Windows Desktop Search is similar to search feature in Windows Vista. If you are not ready to upgrade to Vista but want the search functionality, the Windows Desktop Search is for you. As this is tightly integrated with the OS, it might work better for some.
Windows Search is able to search for e-mail too. For list of supported files

Copernic Desktop Search

This was one of the best search software before Windows Search being introduced. There is a paid version but the free one should be sufficient for basic search. Copernic Desktop Search is also able to search for e-mail messages.
