What's a good iPod alternative, based on functionality?
1. user interface - it has to be as easy to use as the iPod
2. durability - I want to use it at the gym)
3. bluetooth
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I was looking at this one as a gift but in the end purchased Samsung Q1 ( $123.41 from Amazon + shipping) instead as the person does not need the bluetooth.
Key features of Samsung P2:
- Built-in Bluetooth 2.0: compatible with Bluetooth headphones and speakers for wireless stereo playback
- 3-inch widescreen LCD with touchscreen controls
- FM radio, text viewer, alarm clock, world clock, and calendar
- Windows XP and Windows Vista compatible

M$I agree. I use my blackberry 8800 as an MP3 player as well.
The biggest problem with any phone as an mp3 player is the limited storage. Having a lot of room to store all of your audio has quite a few advantages.
Still, my blackberry does a very good job of letting me listen to audio books.
