I would avoid using actual gels at all. I find that pastes are the best way to go. They have good hold without being stiff. I have used variety of products from cheap to expensive. Crew was one of my favorite, but i found using the axe brand i got about the same hold for half the price. Your gonna want to try a few different products. Make sure you don't over use it, less is more, and you need to find out if you should dry your hair completely or use it when slightly damp.
