What's a good birthday present for a 1 year old boy?

My son's first birthday is fast approaching anyone got a good idea for his present?
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Pretty much anything. Often even the box it came in is fun for them. :-)

I couldn't agree more, I think we could just give him a box with some wrapping. He'll get as much fun out of that.

duplos, simple puzzles, board books, fingerpaints (under serious supervision), a cool t shirt for Baby and Mom (and Dad)

a safe toybox or shelf to put his stuff on!

a picture frame, too, for his first birthday

I was thinking the football (soccer) kit of mine and my wife's teams, but that could become a diplomatic issue.

My 10 month old granddaughter loves the Baby Moves Baby Einstein video and it's also very educational.

I love these:
Busy Activity Block - Educational Toddler Activity Toy
First ABCs Soft Nesting Blocks and First ABCs Board Book Set
Sock Monkey Stuffed Toy

And my absolute favourite:
Wheely Bug Ladybug. Not cheap, but really great! (The small one is for Small is for 18 months - 3 years, so might be still just a bit too early)

In that case the first two suggestions are pretty neat. Especially the soft nesting blocks..

Thanks for the help, I'm trying to steer him towards blocks as I'll eventually want him to be into Lego (for purely selfish reasons, I loved it as a kid)!

One good present are toys that have music and many colors.
For a one year baby there is this toy named Einstein.
It looks like a sailboat and it has three button (different colors) .
When the baby touches the buttons he hears a piece of music (no words) and the buttons light up.
The toy has another setting, that allows the baby to touch the buttons and hear a musical note when the buttons lights up.
It sounds like a simple toy, but my three boys and nephews loved this toy when they were one.
The toy is not loud, so I love it too.
