If you stab someone w/ a knife or shoot them you still get the same conviction and sentence. So you mise as well shoot them.
Good old fist fights need to be encouraged and the penalties need to be less severe (assuming you dont kill or mutilate the person). A broken nose or bruised face is much better than a knife or gun shot wound.
