I wish you'd flesh out your question a bit. I'm not sure to what you're referring. For what it's worth, my mom was born in the 30's, and she was never beaten. So I think it went out when hoop skirts did. It's not been a recommended parenting technique in the general culture for many decades.

there's nothing wrong with a good old fashioned spanking on the butt with your hand. using sticks, belts,or other things is going to far. The child will learn just as much from a quick smack on the butt as a beating. And won't learn the resentment that a beating will cause. Remeber kids that are beaten are much more likely to be child abusers and kids that are just spanked are much more likely to be well behaved.
