What you are looking for in a self-help book? What is overdone? What would be really great? What's missing from most?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

When I read a self help book, I will get motivated to take action in my own life. Books like "the secret", will help me to look on the power of my mind and to find unusual resources around me.It says too much about the power of mind and less about taking action. At first you think, all in your mind etc. But looking closer and exploring further, it is all about what can be done right now to change things for you.
I like Joe Vitale's books. Also I read Thik and Grow rich by Napolean Hill. I am also a fan of Tony Robbins.
They all help you when you feel like stuck and want some really motivational saying to push you up.
To me, the bottom line is have happiness at the present time and believe everything is going to be great. I like the idea of Robbins to look up if you wanted to change your down feeling immediately. It really works for me.
I am still experimenting with the ideas of these books. I will let you know if anything changes for me because of these books.
