What would you pay for a tattoo design?

A friend of mine is an artist (not a tattoo artist, a painter) and he's designing a small tat for me. Any suggestions as to what I should pay him?
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

If he is a friend, and it is a small tat, I think just feeding him a dinner as a thank you would be enough. I run a webdesign business and charge upwards of $5,000 for a site but when a friend has something they need I always do it for the cost of hosting and a dinner to hang out and discuss exactly what they want... nothing more

It depends upon tattoo size and body part where you want to place a tattoo.

out of the two replies, your answer makes the most sense. I would elborate a bit more, specifying what i'd pay for tattoo on varies parts of the body, etc.
