What would you do with a fully functional PPC 6700?

http://www.mobiletechreview.com/Sprint-PPC-6700.htm

It is just sitting in a box right now, being heavy and stupid. Seems like a waste. I used it for terminal services a few times when I had sprint.
Tip for best answer: M$0.75
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

There's a few things you can do:
1: Flash a new ROM and play with, say, Windows Mobile 6.5 or any of the other ROMs out there
2: Use it as a VoIP handset over WiFi (Windows Mobile 6.1 and up have an integrated SIP dialer)
3: Activate it on one of the many low-cost CDMA providers (Cricket, Pageplus, etc)
4: List it on eBay. The Mogul still goes for a bit of change.
5: Use it as an emulation machine for on the go. I can't recall the various emulators but I know they have everything from NES to PSX.

As with most out of date phones i keep them in a box w/ their charge cables. This way i have an ample supply of rechargeable batteries for other projects. The phone gets turned into a make shift charger. I also rip out vibrator motors, microphones and speakers for other projects...

Since the phone won't cut it as a "phone" anymore why not use it as a webcam? I used to use my Motorola Q9c as a Bluetooth webcam for making Skype calls. When I tried, it worked pretty good.

Even without the network, it is a perfectly good windows mobile device just waiting to be hacked. Personally I would go load some emulators for my portable enjoyment (but first would need to wire in a dock to plug into an actual controller to make things more comfortable). Also having a wifi web browsing device is always very handy when within range of a router.

It work perfectly as phone for me and I dont look for "upgrade". But if you want more there is wm6 ROM on web witch improve speed also there is USB drivers that will enable 6700 connect to external HD, storage, printer or even camera, also USB pins have serial port functionality, 6700 work well as terminal + IR decoder + "oscilloscope"/signal generator. One more good point about this phone, there is no way Sprint can detect that you use it for sharing Internet even if you use standard methods, so 15$ for unlimited plan instead of 45$ (or something like this, I don't remember how much they charge now.)

Install Android and mess around with it :) Use it as my mobile workstation (turns out I really need one, I sold my iPod touch out of my contempt for apple, but miss the work I could do on it). I'd prefer linux anyway :)

Read ebooks if it's comfortable for your eyes. I use Stanza on my iPod Touch and before that I used a Palm Z22 and it was comfortable enough

Flashing the ROM is extremely easy - PPC Kitchen1 builds, configures and flashes the phone for you.

My experience with emulators on the 6700 was that anything above the NES was unplayable, and even on the NES there was some slowdown. That said I had a pretty resource intensive install, it would likely run better with a more optimized system.

if you already have insurance on your account and the 6700 is from your carrier(sprint, verizon, att), depending on the carrier, and whether or not it can pass a warranty rather than insurance claim replacement, activate it on your account and walk into a service and repair center for your carrier, tell them it doesnt work and if they cant fix it to order you a new one. Act like you dont want a new one, you want your favorite old phone to keep trucking and if you have to upgrade with contract instead of the replacement your insurance is there for, that you want to speak to his manager or the retentions dept. Hopefully the tech will be lazy, check your account for insurance, check the phone to pass warranty instead of accidental damage and the only replacement option might be a 6800 or better and you then 'compromise' for the newer alternative model. Then switch your phone back to the account and sell your brand new shiny refurbished phone for an easy $80 to $100 bucks, factory stickers and all, off craigslist.

Use it to remove desktop to your real computer,
Or put Android on it and then use sipdroid in conjunction with Google Voice.
Another option is to install pandora on it and always have it connected to speakers so that you could stream music through wifi.
Buy cheap bluetooth GPS and use it as a navigator.
Good Luck
