2 years, 9 months ago about Barack Obama

What would you do as President of the United States?

OK, here is the (fictitious) situation.
Barack Obama has decided to take a year off from Presidential duties and join the NBA draft as a power forward (he's gunning for the Bulls I believe).

Largely based on your success as the temporary CEO of Mahalo, he has chosen you to take his place. (I know it doesn't really work that way, but please play along)

What new policies and bills will you put in place?
What would receive the wrath of your Veto stamp?

A few ground rules:
Please keep it fairly light-hearted and fun.
You can mention the big things YOU think would be good for the country, but try not to make it about the guy who hired you. And take it easy with the impeachment button on your fellow presidents!

I would first tell everyone that after this term I would probably never be re-elected.

I would first say there would be no religion taught in school. You may have your after or before school meetings and "intelligent design" will stay out of the science room. Evolution, and adaptation would be brought into the classes. (Its science it is held true by scientists).

I would remove the FCAT as a way to grade how the school is doing. (It’s the state run tests).

I would also make it legal (in all states) for gay marriage. This country was built on freedoms and NO ON has the right to take it away. It’s an inalienable right to pursue happiness.

I would make it so your medical history is show to all doctors at their request, but you must be notified of it. My mom OD on pills because she would doctor hop (you go to other doctors and don’t tell them you have pills from the other doctor).

I would make it so that you cannot get government help, if you are an illegal. Non-US Citizen. On the basis of, you came here, refused to do it legally, and want me to help support you? GTFO.

I would also make English our National Language.

I would stop requiring manufactures to produce their instructions in English and all other 150 billion languages (If you cant learn the language, GTFO)

I would set schools up to run all year round, but with more breaks (Our education system is falling way the hell behind)

I would re-enact the death penalty on sex crimes. If you rape a 10 year old at age 45...Meet the gas chamber. (That’s an example).

I would move forward with stem cell research and set up a system in the abortion clinics that if you want to donate the dead zygote to science, that is appreciated. If not then it will be disposed of properly.

No more choose life license plates. If you get a special one, then why can’t the prochoice guy get one?

Legalization and management of Marijuana. You may have on yourself enough for you, not to sell. You cannot use it out in public, but you may use it within your home.

I would turn the drinking age to 16, and the driving age to 20.

Would set up a mix of health care like the French (who were rated #1 btw), they carry a card with a microchip on it (like your credit card) and they swipe it onto their computer and they can see your entire medical history. Also your health "insurance" bill is sent directly to the government (read the next line)

I would make our health companies just like Canada as well, a tax from everyone to pay for the health care bills, go as often as you want when you need it (you must be a LEGAL US Citizen).

I would get rid of Income tax. YOU SHOULD NOT BE TAXED ON MAKING YOUR MONEY.

I would remove lobbyists from government.

I would remove ourselves from other countries business; we are not the world police, which is what the UN is for.

I would sell Citizenship. (The guy I like who had this idea said $400,000 you buy a house and open a bank account, we will open our doors for you. (It allows us to bring the rich to our country instead of just the poor and hungry that we can no longer afford to do)) www.rootforamerica.com

I would do a full investigation on the bush presidency, and make the records open to the public on what was going on and what he did.

I would push less gas more electric vehicals.

I would invest more money into solar panel discounts for everyone

I would split the FDA into 2 seperate sections of the governement.

Then if I wasn’t assasinated yet...

I would set a Flat Tax (A system that taxes everyone at the same rate, regardless of their income bracket.)

Thanks for the ranting space!

I'm going to have to disagree with you on several points:

-I've never seen any kind of evidence that spending more time at school actually leads to greater academic achievement. In fact the Asian countries that are reported to have better education systems have their students spend less hours in school than in the US.

-The UN is not perfect but, as how another user puts it,"It gets all the nations together to talk, even when they are grandstanding by recalling their ambassadors to the countries where they need them most. They also hammer out useful treaties from time to time, and have agencies which do a lot of good in the world. They get the major powers talking whenever a big crisis comes up. That sort of thing is not automatic you know, consider the many total failures to communicate throughout history."

-You propose an elimination of the income tax but you don't provide any alternative forms of taxation

-The selling of citizenship to only the rich is to me personally offensive. My mother and her family were poor when they entered this country, now they are productive members of society. A poor person has three times better chance of rising out of the lower class than any other country. Which is why so many immigrants enter this country, not for the reason of living on welfare for the rest of their lives.

President Obama would be happy shooting hoops while I was in office because I agree with him on so many issues. In fact, I suspect that he is mainly not doing things that I would like because he is a practical politician who knows what he can actually get done and has support for.
I'll just mention a few of the things that might be more unusual that I'd push for.

I'd push for even more environmental efforts, basic science, and space. Gas and coal have to go, now! We should be spending double what we do on science. Obama has rather neglected space exploration, I'd propose and fund a massive new effort directly aimed at establishing a Lunar Science Station.
http://icshi.bingodisk.com/public/vanvogt/LunarStation01.jpg

On the tax front I'd push for much higher inheritance taxes. Taxing income discourages working, but there's nothing but benefits from inheritance taxes. You can't take it with you. Your kids don't deserve it. More broadly, a lack of inheritance tax causes an aristocracy to develop where rich families accumulate massive wealth and power. It happens in other countries and it has been happening here. This has little to do with capitalism vs socialism, but rather aristocracy vs meritocracy. Everyone should start as equal as practical and have as much opportunity as possible. A nearly complete inheritance tax is is major and vital step to achieve this.
http://www.tallarmeniantale.com/pics/teddy_roosevelt.JPG

Two particular industrial policies would get my attention. I'd push for all subsidies to the sugar industry and sugar cane farmers to cease. They can make ethanol or grow something else. Of course the beer industry would be subject to two efforts. The commerce department would be ordered to reinvestigate the giant brewing corporations and break up their near monopolies. Tax on beer would be eliminated, and small brewers subsidized for their first few years in business. Interstate Commerce would be used to force the states to allow free shipment and sale of beer by mail. The drinking age for beer and wine would be set at the European Union minimum (if any) (again the federal agencies would be influencing the states).
http://www.electricalautomation.com.au/Micro-Brewery-Control-Syste.jpg

With regard to the military, a big change would be to reassign and retrain substantial forces to defend and patrol the border with Mexico. We always seem to look to the last war, and not the next. The next type of war seems likely to be the subtle occupation by illegal but peaceful means such as was done by Morocco to Southern Sahara and we need to start defending ourselves now.

Why are you saying that receiving something as a gift should not be income? It is incoming money. That it's not earned seems to mean that it would deserve a higher tax if anything. Consider tips. They count as income, but they are voluntary, which makes them a gift of sorts. Income is when a person gets money or property from another person. If you own a house you can give it away, certainly. But if you receive a house you have received the equivalent of income, usually a large chunk of it. Why, from the point of view of the receiver, should it be tax exempt?.

defolts's Avatar

actually this was a more than helpful answer I may use your aristocracy VS meritocracy argument, I have heard it before but you reminded me. I should have put it in my answer, I put a lot in there and was thinking about the move to rename estate taxes, death taxes, pushed by people like the Walton family. Japan taxes estates at up to 70% seems to work for them.

rishiku's Avatar

What I am pretty much saying is you pay taxes for making money, (Income Tax). You pay taxes on all the stuff you buy (sales tax, taxes on tires to pay for the roads ect ect). Why is it that once a person has paid these taxes, that the money that has been given to someone else, should be taxed again? Also how would you tax someone on the gift given? When you buy a house, you pay taxes on that house. The house should be yours to give and not have to pay anything for (besides property and transfer of deed).

rishiku's Avatar
rishiku | 2 years, 9 months ago Report

Well as it is right now, if you get any gift you have to pay taxes on it, I think that since the original person had to pay taxes to earn/buy it. There should be no taxes on it.

Would be like you putting money into your savings account (money already taxed when you got it from your job) then when you go to take some out they tax you again (this isnt the situation but its an example of what I mean).

What I am trying to say is, they earned what that have, they shouldnt get double taxed on it.

Not original with me of course. I have the picture of Teddy Roosevelt by that paragraph because it was something he advocated. He also was in favor of a steeply graduated income tax and public health insurance. I have no idea why the conservatives like to pretend he is their hero.

I don't understand your comment about inheritance taxes. Are you saying that land should be exempt? I was saying that you should not be able to inherit large amounts. You should sell the house and land and pay the taxes, which should be near 100% since in my opinion there should only be a modest homestead exemption. Under the current system you would get to sell the house and keep the couple of million dollars which you in no way earned or deserve. Gifts above some reasonable value should be treated as income.

rishiku's Avatar
rishiku | 2 years, 9 months ago Report

One problem with taxing people on their inheritances; Lets say your Great great long lost uncle dies and you are his only living relative. If he leaves let’s say you his house, which is a 10bedroom/10.5 bathroom house, sitting on 100 acres of land. He leaves you no cash cause all of that goes to all of his charities because he was a great guy.

Do you have the money to pay the taxes on that house? I didn’t think so, are you just going to let the government take it? Would it be right to let someone tax you on a gift?

Also, rich families always stay rich; they invest their money and make it so that they always remain rich. J&J is a GREAT example (Johnson and Johnson) that company has its company in everything. Also if the family wanted to bypass the whole inheritance tax, what would happen if the parents just bought them a major company (say that Bill gates bought IBM and gave it to his son) would he have to pay taxes for a transfer on business?

Drinking age varies by country in Europe. However I do believe it should be lowered and driving age raised. (It teaches kids that alcohol isn’t a big deal) I mean when I was 16 I was drinking. It’s a lot easier to get your hands on alcohol then a car.

albanian's Avatar
albanian | 2 years, 9 months ago Report

I definitely disagree with that concept. The tax is incurred when one person pays or gifts the money to another. Tax is not paid on money when it is first printed and never again as it circulates. Paying tax on a large gift is just as reasonable as paying it on earned money. When you deposit money in a bank you are not giving it to them, you are loaning it (for safe keeping). There is no double tax on gifts, it is a single tax per person. This is similar to the argument sometimes seen about inheritance. The notion of double tax is pulled out of thin air, there are two persons involved and only one tax per person. The currency itself is taxed over and over as it circulates.

Good thing for ya'll I'm not running for president. What would I do? Plenty! I would first seize all property not government owned in the United States and open it up. Land would no longer be something you can "own" or "will" to someone, with a grandfather clause protecting those who already have land, until they die of course and then it becomes free game. After that, nobody would be able to "occupy" more than ten acres at a time. Land would be completely cost free. I would reenact the homestead law. I would make any vehicle getting less than 20 mpg illegal. I would completely quash the coal industry. I would invest money in the solar and wind power industries and force electric cooperatives to transfer over to one of the two in the next five years. I would completely legalize marijuana, but keep the alcohol laws as they are, and then export billions of dollars worth of pot to Mexico and Canada. I would make illegal building a dwelling with more than 250 square feet per person living in the dwelling, with a grandfather clause protecting those who already own a home. I would put through single payer healthcare system. I would completely obliterate any outstanding student loans and make secondary education free to the masses. I would completely revamp the education system, taking kids who aren't doing well in school and put them in internships and apprenticeships so they may learn a trade hands on, rather than pushing them through a school system that bores the crap out of them and makes them want to skip and smoke their brains away.

Lets just say I got REALLY F***ing bored

I would first seize all property not government owned in the United States and open it up.

*Technically all land is owned by the government, your property taxes is really like a rent you pay. That’s why you have to pay to build on your own land (construction deeds and such)

Land would no longer be something you can "own" or "will" to someone,

*So we work hard all our lives and decided to leave a home for our children (if lets say you die and your child is turning 21 and has been renting) we cant do that? Then where is the boundary that says that you cant build a swimming pool right next to my front door?

with a grandfather clause protecting those who already have land, until they die of course and then it becomes free game.

*So if you died I could just run to your house and call firsties?

After that, nobody would be able to "occupy" more than ten acres at a time.

*Farmers, Parks, Business, Car dealerships, the white house? If you mean people only, then doesn't that mean that you are restricting people on what they can and cant do? The country was built on freedom and the right to do what you want as long as you don’t harm anyone else (and apparently yourself now a days with how many people they stop from committing suicide)

Land would be completely cost free.

* So I could take 10 acres and live next door to the president and live next door to you?

I would reenact the homestead law.

*When Lincoln passed that law I think he was more looking at something for slavery then for people to get free land, also that law is kind of like squatters rights, there would be a lot of chaos and killing for people who would try to claim someone else's land. It was also up to 160 acres (which goes against what you said no more then 10 acres a person) They also had to farm the land, and build a home on it. (that’s not really free land with that kind of money now a days) http://www.legendsofamerica.com/AH-Homestead.html

I would make any vehicle getting less than 20 mpg illegal.

*What about fire trucks? I bet they get a lot less then 20 mpg, Also this goes again against freedom to do what you want which is the basis of this country, you would have to PUSH for people to use alternative forms of energy.

I would completely quash the coal industry.
* What about all the jobs lost? All the towns that DEPEND on those jobs to stay alive? (New Castle, Pennsylvania was a steel city, it is pretty much in shambles because the steel dried up)

I would invest money in the solar and wind power industries and force electric cooperatives to transfer over to one of the two in the next five years.

*Again this goes against the constitution (which probably needs rewritten) but I would say TAX them on it which would encourage them to change, call it a Clean Environmental Tax and determine how much off put the give to a % say 1% of profit margins for every ton over say 50 tons of CO2 emissions (if it doesn't change them I bet it lowers it DRASTICALLY)

I would completely legalize marijuana

*I don’t know you really want your 8 year old smoking pot before school?

but keep the alcohol laws as they are,

*As I said earlier, its easier to get alcohol then it is to get a car

and then export billions of dollars worth of pot to Mexico and Canada.

* Mexico and Canada are OUR biggest suppliers of Pot, why would they want ours?

I would make illegal building a dwelling with more than 250 square feet per person living in the dwelling, with a grandfather clause protecting those who already own a home.

*Constitution

I would put through single payer healthcare system.

*Not sure what you mean

I would completely obliterate any outstanding student loans and make secondary education free to the masses.

*I agree but how would the teachers be paid, where would this money come from?

I would completely revamp the education system, taking kids who aren't doing well in school and put them in internships and apprenticeships so they may learn a trade hands on, rather than pushing them through a school system that bores the crap out of them and makes them want to skip and smoke their brains away.

*Well you just said legalize marijuana, so a lot more kids would be “smoking their brains away”. Also I like where that is going with the trade schools, but I would first MANDATE they would have to learn basic math and reading. Trade skills are a big thing here still because Fishermen don’t go to school (unless you are driving the boat), Hunters, Glass makers, Its all pretty much hands on learning. Hell even cooking is more apprenticeship then it is schooling.

1. Yes but whose fault (really) is it that they have 5 kids? If they planned better they wouldn't have ended up in that situation. Just because that person has the ability to purchase a vacation home its their fault that person cant afford a better house? I know a lady right now that owes me about $900, she has 3 kids and one on the way, her boyfriend works under the table, I bought the tools for his job and a car for them to help them. She Drinks, Smokes, and blows her money on everything. She doesn't pay me a dime at all (this has been over about 2 or 3 years and SHE KNOW she owes me the money cause shell say something sometimes). She wont stop having kids (each kid is about a year apart) and she cant afford her bills. Are you saying that its Mariah Carrie shouldn't buy a big house cause she works hard cause this girl cant keep her legs closed (or use protection) and cant afford a nice place to live?

No, you wouldn't be able to run up to a place to "grab" it. You would have to register with the government that you need a place to live in a particular area, they would review what openings they have and you would get to choose.
2. So in fact you would be limited to a confined space? Then how would you pay the government (the employees) to set this up and file the documents and have them stored somewhere?

The point is, land should not cost a damn thing, EVER! Why? Because we are all born unto this world not by our choice and yet are told we have nowhere to be, nowhere to exist, nowhere to go, and nowhere to sleep unless we get down and slave our asses off to pay a huge amount of money for it? Where's the justice in that? A place to exist is a God given right! Not a right given to only those who pay for it. If it's not a God given right, what are we even doing here? That is a sick and twisted way of thinking.
3. Ill agree we should be allowed to have property and they shouldn't be charging me 1300/yr for just having the land (I own about .5 of an acre is that). But that's where it comes down to Why should you get this, if you aren't going to work for it? I mean yes it should be more reasonably priced, but free I think not. Look at food stamps, free food, you know what most people spend that on at the store? Junk food and Soda (I grew up on Food Stamps, and worked at a Grocery Store).

4. Yes but if you squash those jobs whose going to pay for the training for these new jobs? Its a big difference between digging up coal and installing a solar panel to a converter box. Also Our roadways are made with tar, which is made with oil.

5. Henry ford made one that ran on hemp, don't get me wrong dear, I truly want to see fuel cars gone. I am just making you think (Socrates said Question everything, force people to prove their points). They paid him off and bought the idea and locked it up.

6. first off, lets relax. I am just saying you said you would out right legalize it. I am just pointing out you should put regulate and legalize it. I don't think either would be good for a young age.

7. Yes but Mexico is a much cheaper place to live, they wouldn't be able to afford our pot. I also don't really know the statistics on how many Mexicans smoke pot. I also don't know if it is legal for them to grow it, if it is then when they grow it they might just be making the "dirt weed" for moneys sake. Why sell quality when you can sell quantity.
8. Teachers are paid now by our taxes, such as property taxes, state taxes, school district taxes. College pays for its self, (besides a little gov money they get but that's public community colleges). Also the pot money would be used for the deficit right?

9. Only time could tell that though I guess. I mean look at alcohol, its legal and you always hear of people having problems with it and dying from it in college and suchness.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Bored? To say the least.

About all land being owed - yes, you are right, but if that's the case why can't someone get some property without having to tap dance on their heads while juggling chainsaws? Seriously! It really sucks that someone can OWN 1,000 acres for he and his wife to vacation on TWICE per year, yet there are families with five kids who live in one or two bedroom apartments with nowhere for the kids to go out and play? How sick is that? How twisted is it to think that is fair and just?

No, you wouldn't be able to run up to a place to "grab" it. You would have to register with the government that you need a place to live in a particular area, they would review what openings they have and you would get to choose.

The point is, land should not cost a damn thing, EVER! Why? By quashing the coal industry, that would open up a huge amount of renewable energy jobs. Once the initial capital was invested to set up that renewable energy, the maintenance costs would be much lower than that of coal or natural gas or (ugh!) fossil fuels.

We have the technology to get away from fossil fuels right now. We needn't wait any longer, but the billions of dollars are spent on lobbyists (you know all that profit oil companies begrudgingly reported a year or two ago?) to keep the vicious cycle of addiction going. In fact, does anybody remember that guy from back in the 1960's who developed a vehicle that ran on something other than fossil fuels and he was going to drive his vehicle across the nation, but suddenly disappeared and you never heard anything else about him? Wonder what happened to him?

With regards to pot, if you don't know what you are talking about, you really shouldn't open your mouth. The marijuana legalization argument has been on this website several times before. Please refer to previous arguments about that. But, yes, I would rather see an 8-year-old smoking pot than drinking a beer. If you don't believe me, just open up any medical journal and look for effects of cannabis on the body and then do the same for alcohol and you will understand.

Mexico and Canada would want our pot because it would be cheaper, and better, too. Ever had Mexico dirt weed? YUCK! The only reason it's so expensive is because of the risk involved. Sell it back to them at half price and we might be able to make up a small fraction of the billions of dollars that end up in Meixco and Canada each year due to Americans purchasing it. Imagine how much money, imagine how fast the deficit would disappear if we just started thinking for ourselves and stopped listening to people like William Randolf Hurst, people who don't do or say anything unless it benefits them in some way.

Uhhh, how do teachers get paid now? LOL How about some of that pot money?

And, no, a lot LESS kids would be smoking their brains away if pot were legal. The whole reason it's illegal is a complex web of political and financial reasons. It has nothing to do with keeping kids off drugs and, even if that was the case, it's actually doing the opposite.

I'm seriously running out of time today. I know I didn't touch on everything. I will come back tomorrow and finish this comment.

I've worked my butt off and bought myself five minutes....

"Only time could tell that though I guess. I mean look at alcohol, its legal and you always hear of people having problems with it and dying from it in college and suchness."

EXACTLY! Alcohol is physically addictive, pot is not. (These are all facts, not opinions or exaggerations.) One can overdose and die from alcohol, but not so with pot. Alcohol effects every major body system, every single one! Pot effects three...neuro acutely (meaning only when stoned), cardiovascular (slightly raises blood pressure only while stoned), and pulmonary because of the traditional way of consuming, however, you don't have to smoke it. There are other ways.

It is the biggest injustice in this society that alcohol is legal, legal, legal, and pot is a no-no. There are so many who are misinformed about marijuana. The truth is coming out, however.

Also, with regards to everything else. You wore me out. Do you realize how difficult that is to do? I may come back tomorrow to respond more, but at this time I'm really sick of the question. I was answering in a "wishful thinking" kind of way. I didn't know we needed to put together our wishlist AND method of application at the same time. So, at this time, let's just agree to disagree, although I think we agree on more than you think, just not when it comes to how to implement it all. The answer is, in a sense, more of a wishlist. If anyone knows of a way to effectively implement it, great. If not, oh well, but I'm ready for another question.

Did you ever visit my page, rishiku? simple living I finally have over 50 hits. I think perhaps they don't register right away.

Simple:

1) STOP GOVERNMENT GROWTH: We cannot spend our way out of bankruptcy. I would VETO any legislation that did not cut $2 in spending for every $1 of new spending.

2) WASTEFUL PROGRAMS: Eliminate/combine duplicate government programs to cut spending. For example we have over 13 federal programs working to reduce teen pregnancy. If all were combined into 1 they could be more productive while spending less.

3) GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES: Along with shrinking duplicate federal programs would come shrinking the federal work force. I would focus on streamlining the federal government and eliminating positions that do not produce or achieve their objectives.

4) FEDERAL AID TO OTHER COUNTRIES AND ORGANIZATIONS: I would analyze all countries and organizations that receive AID from the USA. Any that has actively worked against the USA's goals and objectives, or whose leader had attacked the USA would have their aid cut off immediately. Money for humanitarian, and security purposes would be redirected through NGO's that have proven them selves as effective.

5) STOP DEFENDING OTHER COUNTRIES WHO COULD DEFEND THEMSELVES: Pull most military personell from countries like Japan and Germany who could defend themselves. Re-deploy part of those forces to defending our borders (see #9) Stratigic bases would be maintained in those locations.

6) IMPOSE TERM LIMITS FOR CONGRESS: We need statesmen in office who work to improve this country, not career politicians who are most concerned with staying in office.

7) SIMPLIFY THE TAX CODE: I think taxes are too high, and I also think that there are too many loop holes in the current tax code. Simplify it. I would support a flat national sales tax with the elimination of the income tax. Health care, food and housing would be tax exempt. people who spend more are taxed more. Also the notion that people who do not pay income taxes can receive an income tax rebate is ridiculous.

8) IMPOSE A ONE STRIKE YOUR OUT POLICY FOR CONGRESS: If any one in congress is convicted of tax evasion, tax fraud, pay for play, or any such financial crime. They are kicked out of office and cannot run for public office or be appointed to a public office again.

9)GUARD OUR BORDERS: We must be able to control our borders. I support multiple fences with a dead zone between them, as well as strengthing our coast guard.

10) IMMEGRATION: Make it easier for people to migrate to this country LEGALLY, punish those who are here illegally. We want skilled honest workers who can contribute to society. Here are my immigration requirements:
a) If you have a useful skill, and have not been convicted of any crime, You, your spouse, and your children can come to this country.
b) Any immigrant who is convicted of a crime is immediately deported.
c) Children of immigrants are NOT naturalized citizens.
d) Immigrants cannot receive welfare or food stamps, must be gainfully employed (and pay taxes), and pay for some form of health insurance.
e) No more than $1,000 per year can be sent to any other country by an immigrant.
f) People her illegally must conform to the above requirements, pay a $5,000 per person fine and not be convicted of any crimes or be deported

11) TRIAL LAWYERS: Frivolous law suits need to stop, enough said.

12) REFORM LOBBYING: I don't see how 'paying for face time' can be considered legal when the face time involves MAJOR PERKS. elected officials are beholdent to the people who elected them NO ONE ELSE. This includes unions who threaten to withhold support if certain requirements are not met.

13) MAINTAIN THE CONSTITUTION: Legally the Constitution cannot be changed without the states ratifying it. Stop judicial activism that changes the Constitution through 'Interpritation'

I would make sure health care is passed and try to make it affordable.

I would go back to the original intent of the minimum wage to where it is half the average U.S. wage, keep in mind if you raise minimum wage you would lower the cost of food stamps and EIC since less people would qualify.

I would outlaw calling the Dallas Cowboys Americas team, and it could be then chosen from Either the Chicago Bears( my choice) Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots or San Francisco 49ers.

I would have the same level of cooperation between U.S. corporations that Japan has with their companies, but I would make it hard for CEO's to be overpaid unless the average workers also get to share.

I Would increase the NASA budget. the technology spin-offs have been beneficial to this country and landing on mars and beyond would most likely yield technologies that would keep us at the front of the pack.

There would be more people that serve in the Military maybe making mandatory for all including the rich and there would also be higher levels of college educated people which would then allow for more sane and rational people that can own guns and not do something crazy with them.

I would finally crackdown on illegal immigration (and no they would not all be kicked out, the people that truly are loyal to this country would get to stay) going after the employers that hire them.

I would come up with catchier national anthem, and I would have the capitol moved for the summer somewhere with nice weather along the pacific coast, also I have January and February in somewhere like Honolulu.

I would spend more on cancer research and stop making either or choices.

I would definitely enforce separation of church and state. and there would be no one coming here wearing a Hajib, that's not what America is about, we have gotten away with second class citizens no need to bring it back.

I would allow more after hours cursing on TV, and nudity, I cannot see the point of a country with such a high divorce rate having such puritanical standards, other countries that are not as puritanical do not and have lower divorce rates and teen pregnancy rates.

Thongs! if you are capable of wearing one in public you may do so.

No team that is consistently bad may call themselves such names as lions, tigers or Bengals, if it is tiger then you will be a cub until you start winning , if it is a Eagle then an eaglet...

Taxes, I probably would not change individual income tax rates but the Capital Gains tax of 15% it would go up to between 20 and 30 % ( it was a GOP wealth transfer) corporate taxes would not be so generous with deductions nor would there be a 20 year carry-forward loss allowance. what the feds allow for deductions is a lot more generous than what other countries allow, and the whole idea of moving companies off shore to dodge paying taxes would get them barred from government contracts while I am in office. I would also index capital gains to the rate of inflation and eliminate the taxes on bank interest for lower and middle class taxpayers.

Family guy would on more times a week and also have more episodes, Stephen Colbert would be press secretary and do his show from a studio at the White House.

I would have a more hands on approach to budgeting, I would realize that what some might consider pork others would not but there would be less of it. I would veto distracting cultural issues just simply because I think it is a waste of time. my judges would probably fall along the lines of Sotomayor and Ginsburg with a little bit of John Roberts.
I would tackle Social Security issues by looking at how other countries like Japan handle this and study whether people should be getting 2 or 3 pensions. seems like double or more dipping to me.

I'm afraid I would suck as President of the United States.

The job is about far more than having the priorities or the right policies. You need to have a feel for public moods and be able to lead them, be able to wheel and deal with other politicians and interest groups, and keep on top a range of issues that makes being a CEO look like a Sunday picnic.

Now I'm not being uber-modest here. I'd suck a lot less than many people if I had to do it, but I would certainly suck compared to Barack Obama, and many other political leaders.

So if Barack Obama asked me to stand-in for him, I'd have to reply: "I'm deeply honored, Mr President, but I'm no more qualified to replace you than I am to stand in for Tiger Woods".

And I don't even play golf! :)

If it somehow happened that I had to do the job anyway, well I'd be relying heavily on my team, and I would pursue broadly the same agenda.

The reasons for sticking to the agenda are twofold. Firstly, and mostly importantly, there was an election, and Barack Obama won it. I don't get to follow my whims over what the people voted for. Second, I'm broadly sympathetic to the agenda anyway.

The one move I might feel entitled to play different... I'd look at having a referendum on healthcare reform. It's a monumental, complex, hugely important subject, and one which the country is divided on. A referendum process can allow for a full debate and underline the legitimacy of the path taken.

I don't know if I would absolutely go for it, I'm sure there are many pros and cons, including constitutional issues. But I'd give it some serious consideration.

Personally I prefer a single payer system, despite what you read or see in certain media the Brits and Canadians love their health care. But it seems unlikely we can manage to agree on that so make health coverage mandatory and subsidize the policies for those who can't afford it.

Flat Tax Base Rate. Base % of income is the same for everyone modified by a discount % for dependents.

Education. The free market works. Pass a law no school can forbid any child to enroll based on where the child lives, they may only refuse to provide transportation based on distance. (they can of course refuse based on the # of students they already have, behavior, etc..). Instead of public schools, supplying public education consists of a standard subsidy the school will receive per child. Schools will have to compete to attract students, and students will compete to get into the best schools.

Healthcare - Government sponsored database to keep all health records: Yes. Taxes forcing other people to pay for your healthcare: No.

If you're on Government Aid, you will work. Depending on skills either in less glorious civil servant jobs, or in a labor pool that will function similar to a temp agency.

Immigration (illegal) - You are eligible for no government aid. Your children are elligible for no government aid (including education). When you are discovered, you will be deported to your country of origin. If you are here illegally and your child is born on our soil, your child is still not a citizen and will not profit from your illegal acts. You are not eligible to hold a job in our country.

Anyone caught knowingly hiring an illegal immigrant will be sentenced to not less than 1 year + 1 year for each prior committing of this offense.(The offenses cannot be seperated into individual counts though e.g. if you're caught one time having hired illegal immigrants, regardless of how many illegal immigrants you have working at that time it's 1 offense. The second offense would only be if you were caught a second time having hired illegal immigrants.)

Prisoners will work. During their prison sentence, the right to compensation for their work shall be given to the government to cover the cost of their imprisonment and supervision, and where possible to their victims, or the estate of their victims, when other means cannot make amends (e.g. property cannot be returned, or the crime was murder).

When a juvenile breaks the law, corporal punishment may be administered provided it should not affect the life or health of the punished save for the effects of the pain and possible scarring (no organ damage, no broken bones, etc...). In addition, whether the juvenile undergoes corporal punishment or imprisonment, his or her parents must elect to either undergo corporal punishment or pay a percentage of their income specified in the law.

All right here is what I would do:

I would actually work on eliminating the debt by putting on a cap on the country's biggest expenditures such as military spending, Social Security, and Medicaid. I would also replace the current income tax system with a consumption based system. I know many won't like the cap on some welfare programs but I'll explain later other things I would do to reduce the need for such programs.

When it comes to the tax system, I propose a Value added tax. With monthly prebates given to the lower class to help alleviate any dramatic increases in the cost of items they need such as food and clothing.

In order to promote a higher savings rate(in order to reduce the reliance on Social Security) I would propose a tax cut on savings. I would also make it mandatory for businesses to offer their employees to not just give them the option to dedicate a percentage of their current income to their savings but also a percentage of all future raises.

When it comes to health care, the following must be done:

-insurance companies must accept everyone who is willing to pay and cannot profit on basic care(profiting on supplemental care is allowed)

-everyone must be mandated to have insurance(the government must pay the premiums for the poor unable to afford health insurance)

-Doctors and hospitals must a accept a national standard of prices for medical treatment

Other ways to improve the health of Americans would be to have every food product show in large font the amount of calories, fat, salt, and sugar it contains on the front side of the product. Also I would make all restaurants include the number of calories a meal has next to the name of the meal in menus. I would also have the same marketing restrictions applied to tobacco companies to also be applied to alcohol companies.

When it comes to foreign policy, I would do the following to improve the third world:

-remove farm subsidies(they give the US an unfair advantage)

-put an end to government to government aid(this kind of aid supports ruthless dictatorships and rarely goes to the people it is supposed to help)

-encourage remittances(remittances are more likely to reach the people who are in need of aid)

When it comes to the Iraq war, I support the planned withdrawal already in place. On Afghanistan I support the sending of more troops, but only as a surge like the one Iraq. Also I would try to convince Pakistan to allow US troops to attack the Taliban and Al-Qaeda bases within Pakistan.

There's a lot of hunger and growing of poppy. To combat thsi I would want the creation of a commodity exchange market that includes every farmer. The exchange would allow surpluses of food in one part of Afghanistan to be sent to other parts of the country where there is famine. The exchange would also allow farmers to sell their crops to other countries, providing an alternate source of income that doesn't involve being with the Taliban.

When it comes to the environment I would demand that at least 70% of all e-waste, paper, plastics, steel, aluminum, and glass that other wise would've been taken to a landfill be recycled.

When it comes to education I support a voucher system and turning every public school into a charter school. The vouchers would be $10,000 with funding being provided by the state and federal governments.

No. ABSOLUTELY NOT! That's what the coal companies want you to think. Wind and solar power, aside from the start up costs which we are seeing now, are cheaper and cleaner and we will never run out of them. The coal industry needs to give up their lies, stop their griping, and go invest in renewable energy. I'm sick of hearing all the propaganda.

I would eliminate black money within government officers firstly and following the others. Government officers engaged in such matter will be arrested and nominate poor educated youths to those posts who would lead the country more peacefully. These black money is being distributed to poor who are below the level of normal salary.

Having unity with other nations. Make the end for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Giving aids to people affected in these wars.
Forgive all enemies and become friends (e.g. Friend with Mr.Osama Bin Laden)

Helping the developing countries by giving non-interest money.

Reducing pollutions by reducing the amount of vehicles among people.
People have to use government transportation services.

As a president I live normal life(middle class life) with lack of security forces(if I am a perfect leader there is even no enemy for me to kill)

*I assume you mean like money under the table, hey pass my tobacco bill and you might find 50k under your pillow? If so I agree!

Having unity with other nations. Make the end for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
*This is like the UN, just some countries REFUSE to join and stay in.

Giving aids to people affected in these wars.
*Umm, yah...I think we should apologies to the people caught in the crossfire but I am not going to be giving Osama my money and saying sorry for going to war on your land. A lot of the people over there actually want us there to help them to have more freedoms

Forgive all enemies and become friends (e.g. Friend with Mr.Osama Bin Laden)
*I don't think that would work, we tried that with Germany after WWI and look what happen there. If you do a criminal act, you have to pay the price.

Helping the developing countries by giving non-interest money.
*Why give them money, so the corrupted officials can spend it on their houses? Look at South Africa you think any of the politicians (not counting the good ones) are having problems? Give a man a fish, hell eat for a day, TEACH a man to fish hell eat for a lifetime.

Reducing pollutions by reducing the amount of vehicles among people.
*I don't think this would work, most people only drive one car at a time, if I'm driving my Ford or my Chevy (Btw I only own one car and its a Lexus I HATE IT but I am broke a snot) I am still putting out the same emissions

People have to use government transportation services.
*In NY it is reliable, down here in Florida I would take the bus to school sometimes (palm Tran city transit) and it would sometimes be 30 minutes even and hour late. I would then be late.

As a president I live normal life(middle class life) with lack of security forces(if I am a perfect leader there is even no enemy for me to kill)

As President I would...

01. Abolish congress!
02. Declare all people free and independent of any controlling governmental
system, outside of that which I have created.
03. Being that the earth does not belong to any collective body of people,
and is used to separate large bodies of people by nationality and racism,
I would abolish the right to own land, but delare all lands livable by all
peoples that would respect the lives and freedoms of each their
neighbors, who live on these lands as well.
04. Abolish the military, and put the duty of defending our lives back in our
own hands, from whence our freedom first enslaved us under this
lousy "democratic" government system.
05 Every city would have a chief, and for large cities, more than one chief
may be elected based on the population of that city. The authority of
each chief can not override or undermine the independent freedoms we
all have a natural right to, but exist only to help bring about peace and the
control of crime.
06 No longer will you work your self exhaustingly to appease a governmental
way of life, where you worry about where you will lay your head, and
where your next meal shall come from, but instead you will work for each
day your own food, and share among your neighbors any excess that
you may have, in effect to love thy neighbor as thyself. This does away
with the every man for himself way of thinking!
07 Set up a National League of Nations, by where all the chiefs of all the
cities can meet to discuss matters relating to each their own peoples,
and the desires in their hearts, or any other matter affecting the free
population in general, such as threats from abroad, as well as within our
lands!

This would be one method I have thought about, I do have another, but this one speaks more to my heart!

I would implement tax cuts instead of tax increases or additional taxes because I know that taxing the american people more is only going to make it harder for the average person to pay their bills. I would forgo any special events, parties or inaugural balls on my behalf because I would want to give that money back to the american people instead of spending millions of dollars for a few hours. Plus when you give back money to the people then they have money to pump back into the economy.

I would create a healthcare plan for those that need coverage and don't have it and I would let everyone else keep the coverage that they are happy with because there is no need to take away good coverage for people that are satisfied with it.

I would fix it to where gas prices were reasonable and stable and not allow such fluctuation in prices because the average person's budget can't accommodate such drastic increases.

These are just a few things I would get started with - basically focusing on how to help the average person keep their heads above water and prevent more homelessness and poverty.

This is how I would work on health care section. People need proper and correct education in this field not more medication. Almost everybody can prevent diseases including the three killers: cancer, diabetes and heart disease. But most people have completely wrong information or no information at all how to do it including the medics. I would spread Dr. Robert O. Young's complete, simple and at the same time complex and extremely good quality system of disease prevention/reversal through out the world and finance his investigations more even if he has enough financing. Maybe I would support businesses that contribute to this pH miracle system, like restaurants. I would make purified, ionized alkaline water more available to people especially in schools and maybe make a requirement to write the pH and ORP values on liquids like coffee, cola, teas and inform society how these numbers influence one's health.

(That's why I said spilt FDA so that ALL ideas on ways of curing/preventing a health problem would be tracked by one side, while what is put in food is tracked and monitored by the other.)

But drug companies like "Roche" earn vast amounts of money with this scam.

Yes he was accused for doing blood analysis and making nutritional recommendations. So what? That's what he does.

Prevention is a good idea, but Robert Young is a notorious quack and convicted criminal with fake degrees. His ideas about pH etc are complete nonsense.

If I were president. I would try to have almost no jobs to do. What I mean is that the government should only be building roads, defending the country and enforcing private contracts through the courts. Thats it. And they should do a minimal amount of taxation to do that. People should be free to live their lives as they see fit. Keeping church and state separated would be the best way to do that.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I would make a single change to the GAAP financial and accounting regulations to require the accounting for, on balance sheet, of debits to our natural resources. Essentially I would require anyone who did business in or with the USA to take a charge when they consumed and failed to replace natural resources. (Water, Power, Air, Trees, etc.) . The impact would be massive.

Hi @aflyinghotpocket,
You have the right to vote for a @rishiku presidency, but it's better to place your vote as a comment instead of an answer.

And if you do it by mistake, just make sure to leave a comment explaining so.

Thanks!

I would make it to where everyone in america makes the same amount of money, or just do away with money altogether. money ruins lives more than it helps people. Caveman days were more civilized than we are today with all our greed. without money we are worthless, so just do away with money so everyone feels the same way, really, why do we need money!? it's just paper and numbers......who cares.

@rishiku I agree. And by the way, Why do we need money? It doesn't necessarily have to be money, but markets and trade are what brings freedom. We are not all equal. Groups don't have a voice or a presence, INDIVIDUALS are all that matter.
