What would cause a dog to go into a convulsion or seizure?

Tip for best answer: M$0.35
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Many things could be wrong with your dog and I would recommend you take your dog to see a vet to insure a proper diagnosis. Here especially, safe is way better than sorry.

Your dog might have epilepsy... it sounds worse than it is. :)

My Shih Tzu has epilepsy and occasionally he will go into an epileptic seizure. These seizures are made up of loss of limb control, limb stiffness, uncontrolled rolling and other movement, and possibly a loss of bladder and/or bowel control. On the rare occasion when the seizure happens during the daylight hours I can see his eyes are rolled far back up under the sockets and only the whites are clearly visible.

My vet told me to keep the dog calm using calming words and tones and to keep him protected from falling or otherwise hurting himself to wait out the seizure. I was told that if the seizure lasted longer than 30 minutes (thankfully none have) to call the vet and bring my pooch down there immediately.

Here is a well answered question I asked about this a short while ago here.

And some other information.

Good luck with your pooch :)

Sudden abnormality in the brain can be the cause of a dog's convulsion or seizure.

See more types of seizure here:
