What would be your favorites places to visit in Brazil?

Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

As a brazilian who was born and raised in Sao Paulo I'd strongly advise you to avoid the hype destinations, such as Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, unless you're really into the big city tour!

What Brazil has as its best to offer would definitely be the beaches of many kinds and beauty and Nature: Caverns, Forrest, Dunes among others.

Also, the not-so famous spots are safer in general, therefore you not only will have a blast, but won't have to worry about violence all the time.

If you're coming for Carnival, go to the real Carnival, placed in Bahia. Rio is a lot of fuzz and even my friends living there rather leave the city on that period. Not to mention violence again.

I have 3 swedish friends coming beginning of next year and they've chosen Manaus, Fortaleza, Savaldor and Rio de Janeiro as destinations. They had a hard time finding english-based websites to book hotels and flights though. I had to help them through the whole process.

My top fav place to visit in Brazil - with NO DOUBT: Fernando de Noronha!

Other places I'd recommend: Natal - Fortaleza - Bahia - Minas Gerais - Guarapari

First place you should go to should be Rio de Janeiro, because it's the most complete city in Brazil - you got everything that a city offers, such as clubs, restaurants, theatres, culture, as well as nice beaches, such as the ones in Ipanema, and nature. Rio de Janeiro also has the most popular tourist sites, such as Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) and Pao de Acucar (Sugar Loaf).

For more exotic beaches and nature, visit the North-East of Brazil, in particular, the state of Bahia. The city of Salvador is a very popular tourist destination in Bahia. This city is the birth place of the Brazilian martial art/dance, Capoeira. They have a very popular carnaval in Salvador, but you have to like big crowds. Near the city of Porto Seguro, Bahia, there's Trancoso and Arraial d'Ajuda, which are beach paradises and are not too well-known by foreign tourists.

One thing that the uninformed tourists don't know, is that just am hour or two away from the city of Rio de Janeiro, one can find exquisitely beautiful beaches and islands, such as the ones that can be found in Buzios, Cabo Frio and Parati.

If it's city life that you crave, then visit Sao Paulo, the fourth largest city in the world.

You can also find Amazon tours in the state of Manaus.
