What would be your dream costume for Halloween?
Me?
Undead Captain Barbosa (I identify with Barbosa more than Sparrow)

This Plague Doctor mask is the spookiest and most creepy mask I have ever seen. I would love to be able to find an exact match to the one pictured above but so far all I can find are less creepy and more commercialized versions. I want to look pestilent doom and gloom scary, I do not want to look like I am auditioning for the lead in a Spy vs Spy movie.

Somehow and somewhere the _good_ plague doctor masks and costumes are out there.

M$I would love to not only go out as a zombie, but to have had my makeup done by zombie creation genious, Tom Savini. For those that do not know who Tom Savini is, he was the makeup artist on such classic horror movies as, "Dawn of the Dead," "Day of the Dead," "Friday teh 13th: The Final Chapter," "Creepshow," and "Creepshow 2."
When talking about zombie makeup, Tom Savini's name is always going to come up. He took zombie makeup from just being paint, to being full prostetics and high-quality makeup. He used to be a photographer during Vietnam, so he was able to see death from a close perspective. He took this knowledge onto the set with him to show what zombies would look like in real life.
While there are some taht will point to some of the more current makeup artists as being more up to date in teh zombie industry, but Tom Savini is my vote for sure. If I had the money, Iw ould fly him out here to sopend as much time, and money, as he needed to make me into one of the most memorable zombies that anyone has ever seen.

M$Dude... interview as a zombie... that sir, would be epic! Unless your media sources told you not to... go for it! Fans would appreciate it. The interviewee would appreciate it. You are at what could easily be described as a 'zombie convention'. But... up to you man.
First of all... I am at this very moment wearing my "Marvel Zombies" t-shirt and I approve this costume idea! I demand pictures of you as the "roadkill" version of Steve! heh
And nice! Have you seen the make-up work for "Walking Dead"?

I have been watching everything about, "Walking Dead." In fact. I am covering the Detroit FanFare comic book convention for a few media outlets, and AMC is going to be there! The first episode is going to be on Halloween, AMC will be at FanFare on October 30th showing a 20 mintue video of deleted scenes, and some behind the scenes videos.
On top of all of that, FanFare is opening on the 30th with a zombie walk. I am going to go in the costume for it. I am just going to have to figure out how I will clean up, change cloths, and get ready for the interviews that I will have to do in the 20 minutes between the end of the zombie walk, and when I have my first scheduled interview with a comic creator.
Halloween is meant to be scary, not funny or sexy/hoochie/skank/hooker-esque

M$Check out hips and curves. i spent 50 bucks for a pair of 4inch high leather knee high boots. You can find a lot of stuff there, and can probably put together an outfit for a couple hundred bucks.. As far as the hair, just cut yours LOL def cheaper than a wig :D.. or check out some local wig stores. they sell all kinds. or buy a long black haired wig, and then take it to someone to cut it like one of the pics. Ta-da!
wow... that is a full range of the Japanese sub-culture you got there.
First picture has you drooling with impure thoughts, and scroll down to find yourself ready to postulate yourself before the Lord for being a sinner. Hah! Love it!
By the way, almost forgot: I have a lady friend that does costuming. Check her site out. http://www.crimsonvision.net/welcome.htm

M$I can see why they would say that, but in kind I think they were wanting less witch and more trollop or hussy (ala corset, belts, waist ribbons, side slits) I like it... just need a straw broom and hat!

In this source - http://bit.ly/9lpUWM - Antonio Prohias is described as a refugee from Cuba who did not believe in or support Fidel Castro and as a citizen of Cuba if one did not do both of those, at least publicly, one would be considered a spy. This was the origin of Spy vs Spy as a cartoon in 1960.
Spy vs. Spy as an anti-Castro cartoon - http://bit.ly/aXNMPz
Internationally recognized as a political cartoonist for the Cuban newspaper "El Mundo" until 1960 when Fidel Castro took over the paper and Antonio Prohias then fled to New York with his anti-Castro cartoons - http://bit.ly/benjQo
So despite the obvious similarities to the Plague Doctor I can not find any historical proof that Antonio Prohias was inspired by or modeled his Spy vs Spy characters after the spooky 14th century doctors.
It is not all too much of a stretch to see the significance and possible meanings of the Spy being the Plague Doctor and being anti-Castro Prohias would have associated Fidel with the plague or Black Death of the nation of Cuba.
There are some websites out there where people make these. I have seen them for as low as $50. Granted, there are different materials that they can be made in, but $50 is not bad. Plus, if you want one made of a soft metal (like the one in the picture), you might be able to find a shop or a tin tapper that will amek one for you.
As for the real masks, I have seen them go at auctions for tens of thousands of dollars. Some of the physicians that wore them actually put ancient glyphs and wards on them for extra mystical protection. These are the high-dollar ones.
I had the opportunity to hold one at an auction, and you could still fainly smell the spice that were placed in the beak to purify the air of the wearer.
Well, @buddawiggi found no historical proof connecting the two because there is none. If you think about it, and those familiar with 'villain traits' know that a beak-like nose is almost synonymous skulkers... or more to the point- spies. The nose was not as big a sharp as they are now and had less of the plague doctor look originally. Great job researching! .50 cents!
Bwahahahaha! I'm glad I'm not the only one that see's spy vs spy! I wonder...
SUB-QUEST! Did the inventer of "Spy vs Spy" base his character's off of a plague doctor suit?
@buddawiggi- should you accept this random sub-quest and return to this question with an answer before I pick a winner, I will tip you a bonus .50 cents!
...like you need the money, but- I know you are a 'spirit of the game' kinda guy, and this kick starts MY new mahalo game: Hatred's Sub-Quest. No one is allowed to answer the sub-quest but you, and the sub-quest is picked when relevant information is given for the question with obvious elements to start a new and irrelevant question of interest.
DO YOU ACCEPT?
