What would be the environmental outcome if the BP Oil Spill fills the oceans with oil until December 21st, 2012?
Could it mean the end of humanity? Life as we know it?
Is there any possibility that this leak causes the extinction of the human race?
Hypothetically, what would be the likely outcome of a two+ year BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico?

Once the dead zone reaches countries and areas that survive solely on seafood as a main staple, there will be upheaval, and eventually chaos and war.
Can humans survive with the oceans being one big slimy dead zone? Probably not.
Even if we were able to clean up a 3 year gush of oil... we are still doing damage to the ocean in other ways and will eventually deplete it of seafood and life through other areas of pollution and overfishing.
Here's a great interview with the author Dr. Sylvia Earle who wrote The World Is Blue: How Our Fate And The Ocean's Are One.

M$I had no clue about any of this, thanks buddawiggi! this is great, i didn't know my answer was that up to date and relevant. Whenever i think of global warming i just imagine the movie water world as what it would be like when the ice caps melt. I'm glad to see Kevin is giving his help, celebrity's should take notes.
I like the "Waterworld" connection because it is real.
Kevin has an idea and BP is buying it.

Fish Oil would take on a whole new meaning.

M$The solution for stopping the oil from gushing may be found soon, but buddawiggi is on to something with this question. The Exxon spill took three years to clean up, this means we are defiantly going to have some major issues with the oil in 2012. Even if the gushing stopped today, there is already enough oil to keep us cleaning, and keep the water warming, for years to come.
I had no idea! actually the three years was until the US coast gaurd said it was clean, so i guess their standards are a little different than i thought..
I guess i shouldn't trust Exxon's website. After reading your article the then re reading the Exxon one it sounds like three years is just when they decided to stop.
Kinda like when a kid tells you his room is clean, really it just means their sick of cleaning.

@goatead1 - you said "Exxon spill took three years to clean up" Ha!
Check out this link on the spill and scroll down to 'how much oil remains?' There is still oil there. They are still, after all these years, having a hard time determining the damage to the ecosystem there. This makes me so sad for the Gulf!
