I remember the talk about this movie when it first came out. There was a lot of talk because it was attempting to throw off the stigma of the NC-17 rating that it received. The producers thought that although NC-17 was a death sentence for movies before that, this was going to be the first profitable NC-17 movie.
The problem for the producers is that this was a terrible movie, and wouldn't have been profitable no matter what the rating was.
