Communism sounds fantastic on paper because it seeks to create a utopia. Who wouldn't love to be part of a society in which lowly wage slaves are treated fairly and everyone has a say in what happens? Oh, yeah, that sounds great...on paper.
In real life, though, people are selfish and power hungry, so innocent men, women, and children end up suffering or dead. (The Victims of Communism Memorial in Washington, D.C. is dedicated to the more than 100 million victims of Communism, just for your edification.) The Soviet Union had the Gulag. China had the Tiananmen Square Massacre. Che Guevara, often idolized on tee shirts and buttons here in the States, wasn't exactly a wonderful leader either.
