What weapons do you prefer when your playing video games?

There creative weapons such as in Ratchet & Clank, swords and daggers in RPG games and guns in action games.

Action - I always enjoyed the shotgun in action games. It's so powerful it tends to take out the target with one blow.

RPG - I would gladly go for claws (something like Wolverine from X-Men). Stab, stab, bleed, stab, win.

Adventure - I love using Bows N' Arrows. Ranged attacks = fun.

If you had to pick a weapon for a particular genre what would it be?

I slowly became a fan of those weapons in first-person shooters that did massive damage to enemies and the lower-classed enemies cannot withstand. Maybe its from using cheat codes and having fun playing around with the types of weapons.

First example i can think of is the classic BFG gun from Doom. You know you have a heavy hitting weapon when it fires a huge blue ball across the screen destroying and damaging anything in its path after the screen flashes when you fire it.

For othe rover-powered and heavy hitting weapons, the Knights of the Round summon from Final Fantasy 7. This Summons continuously damages your opponents to score at least 80,000 damage. The Summons is enough to take out most bosses, and Square was clever by making it so that you cannot use it on one of the optional game bosses.

You also have the Golden Gun in Goldeneye. One-hit kills. :)

I am Partial to spells as weapons particularly those of an element based sorcerer such as those used by the Wizard class in ‘’EverQuest 2’’. Although wizards lack much in the basic armor department their power is equitable to science fiction type beam weapons. They have spells that function as ranged weapons and spells that are good for contact or close in mêlée encounters. Mage’s of the sorcerer type also tend to have a variety of spells that can not only target and individual but some that will target a whole group or even those that simply damage any enemy in the immediate area. One of these spells actually spreads apool of fire across the ground to damage any enemies that enter it.

I love creative weapons. They always make a game that little bit more interesting. Freeze ray, shrink ray, gravity gun, portal gun, etc. I'm not always accurate so I like guns that have a little leeway in that department. Shotguns and rocket launchers are great for spread/splash damage when you can't get a direct hit. Lack of accuracy can also be mitigated with rapid fire or streamed weapons. For these reasons I would have named the freeze ray gun from Duke Nukem 3D as my favourite. Rapid fire, does real damage, and at the end you get to shatter the body with kick. But my all time favourite has to be the souped up gravity gun from the last level of HL2. What is more satisfying than ripping massive consoles from walls or drawing in your enemies themselves and using their limp bodies to knock over the rest.

For RPG's I like magic based attacks. Especially area of effect. Although recently I have been playing as a warlock in WoW and I'm really enjoying damage over time attacks. Just load up your enemy with a few DoT's and then move onto the next while the other slowly dies.

I too have always enjoyed blasting people with a shotgun. However, it's extremely short range and poor accuracy has always made it a secondary weapon in my arsenal. I prefer assault rifles or sniper rifles and other long range weapons. So here is my lineup:

Action - Sniper rifle with Shotgun secondary.

RPG - Magic

Adventure - Native weapons (spears, bow & arrow, sword, etc.)
