What was your CB handle? Or what would it be if you made up one??

Tip for best answer: M$5.00

Big Red. I was asked my "20" so I said I see a Big Red Barn and the other CBers started calling me Big Red. -Silly, I know.

A guy I worked with way back then was into it and (correct me if I’m wrong) he talked about something to do with “crystals” to boost up the power of his CB radio. Then he used to park up at Diamond Head lookout and “shoot skips” to other CBer’s on the mainland and even foreign countries. And I believe he said it was illegal to do that so they used to send postcards to each other as proof that they did talk to each other. Does any of that sound familiar to you CBer’s?

But getting back to the topic at hand, CBer’s made up “Handles” or names - much like how we make up screen names for ourselves on blogs and forums. But how does one come up with a screen name?

Before I became a blogger, I was just a poster. I used to post to Cat’s and Bruddah Lance’s blog under the screen name of Largoz.

I am terrible at making up nicknames and handles, that is why I always use ssharon.
Thankfully I've never had to make myself a CB handle since the closest I have come is using the radio in my ambulance. At least there I'm told how to identify myself to others.

If I had to choose something I think I would pick a word in another language that sounds cool but doesn't actually have any relevant meaning.

I lived in by a pretty big trucker route and as a kid my dad had a station set up.
There was another person around called "Blue eyes" She was a girl and I think she also ran a station, might have been sexual in nature.
But I can't remeber our names.
Now if i did one it would be "Project" since thats my callsign.

My brother drove a blue Valiant Ranger here in Australia. His official callsign was BR-25, so he called himself Blue Ranger.

Ok, this takes me waaaay, way back to when I was a very small child. But my family had an RV and a CB back in the late 70's. My handle was Tigirl (pronounced like tiger/girl). This had more to do with me liking Tigger from Winnie the Pooh than any traits I had!

Obviously ;)
Mine would be CyberAngel.

This question makes me think of the movie "Joy Ride" and the CB handles used in the movie. "Candy Cane", "Rusty Nail" and "Goldie Locks".

I've never had a CB handle, but if I made one for myself I would choose "D-Lo." It's a nickname for me started by my sister that a few people call me, and I think it would be a cute handle.

When we were playing around with the actual radio, I was "Woodstock." Both for the hippie 60's reference (although I was born in 1969, I was into the long hair and tie-dye...), and for the Peanuts character.

On the Compuserve online CB Simulator (ok, who remembers THAT?), I was JuliusCaesar. This is because I was 14yrs old (-ish), and taking lots of Latin classes in high school.

Riding around in my old VW van with my girl friend by my side and our futon in the back and the sweet smell of "incense", I was known as Major Tom. Those were the days.

How to Choose a CB Radio Handle:

Step 1 Consider your hobbies as a source for a handle. Fish Bait, for example, would be a nifty CB handle for a professional bass fisherman.

Step 2 Choose a handle that reflects how you want to be perceived by others. Boss Man, is the perfect name if you want everyone to think you are top dog on the job.

Step 3 Project yourself into the future, and choose a handle that tells others about your aspirations. Palimony Paul or Doctor's Wife, are both admirable pursuits and would sound rockin' on the air waves.

Step 4 Select a handle that lets others know your profession. Crooked Judge is a handle that will raise eyebrows and make others wonder if they will ever be unlucky enough to get you in court.

Step 5 Get crazy and choose an over-the-top CB handle that will suggest to everyone you are a little unbalanced. Something like, Hemorrhoid Renegade, will keep everyone guessing.

Step 6 Aim for a handle that will let everyone know where you are from. Okie Dokie or Boomer Sooner, are choice names for any proud Oklahoman.

Step 7 Let your physical appearance guide your choice. Handles like, Carrot Top and Fat Boy, leave little to the imagination.
