What was the placing of Ashington A.F.C. in the 1969-70 league table of the Northern Football Alliance?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashington_A.F.C.#League doesn't provide the answer. It has 68-69 (18th in the Northern Premier League) and 70-71 (11th in the Northern League) but not the year between. Besides, I've done most of the edits to that page. :)
Ashington A.F.C.'s own webpage doesn't hold the answer either, only noting that "The Colliers then joined the Northern Premier League, but costs were too high and the Colliers were back in the NORTHERN ALLIANCE in 1969/70 before finally joining the Northern League." (http://www.ashingtonafc.com/index.php?page=other-leagues)
The Northern Football Alliance's webpage doesn't hold the answer either, with league tables only going back to 2005-06 (http://northernfootballalliance.org.uk/leagueTables/leagueTables.html)
I think the only way to find this out would be looking at Newcastle-upon-Tyne newspaper archives for May of 1970; it'd probably be in there somewhere. Alas, I'm in Canada, but someone in a university in Great Britian is likely to have electronic access to archives through their school library.
It's a tough nut to crack, folks, but that's why there's a nearly M$15 tip! :)
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

As it says on the first Wikipedia page you site, that they spent "three seasons in the North Regional League" which on the timeline is shown as years 1966-68. Then, they became "a founding member of the Northern Premier League in 1968," which is actually 1969 on the timeline. "However, they dropped out after one season (1969 on the timeline), spent a single season back in the Football Alliance (1970 on the timeline) before moving to the Northern League at the start of the 1970–71 (1971 on the timeline) season, where they have remained since."
It was during this season (1970 on the timeline) that they did not play due to finances (discussed in your second citation), as is represented by the question mark on the timeline, which I am assuming you placed, since you can't "find" the data. Perhaps an asterisk would be better used here indicating a footnote that contains this information.
While not trying to be rude, it is much more likely that you are confusing the issue rather than both the league and the club itself not posting historic information on any of their resource pages.

M$However I have found a website where they discuss the club, and there is a thread on "history ". So I suggest you get on to that forum which you will surely be able to do from Canada just as easily as somebody in the UK can. Click on

Once signed in to that forum you can then ask your question there and I feel sure one of the others, who actually knows about this very obscure football team, that 95% or so of the UK population seem not to have heard of, will be only too happy to give you the answer to your question and you will not have to tip him even one old English penny to find out anything you want to know about their past.

Possible, though the quote from the page on Ashington's site that "the Colliers were back in the NORTHERN ALLIANCE in 1969/70 before finally joining the Northern League." suggests there's something there (caps theirs, not mine by the way). It might be that it was only their back-up team playing, but I can't find the evidence of a table for that year which would prove it one way or the other. :)
