If you are speaking of Edward Teach (aka Blackbeard), a ruthless English pirate that roamed the Caribbean in the early 18th century, he was killed by "a small force of sailors led by Lieutenant Robert Maynard. Lt. Maynard was the first captain of the HMS Pearl. He was also famous for defeating blackbeard in a battle.
Hope this helps!

M$The battle that ensued off of Ocracoke Island in NC was not a true sea battle, as is alluded to in the wiki article. Alexander Spotswood, the Governor of Virginia, actually was the one who put the mark on Blackbeard head. So it was not maynard alone, it was Both Spotswood and maynard.
Blackberads men, after a game of chicken boarded Maynards sloop, and was led into a trap. After a long hand to hand battle in ship, Maynard beheaded Blackbeard and hung his head off of the bow.
So basically Maynard finished him off, on his sloop off of Blackbeards home turf of North Carolina. And not in a “ sea” battle.
