What was the most profitable year in history for MLB?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

There is no information regarding what season was the most profitable in Major League Baseball history. The league does not publish this type of revenue information. MLB does keep a record of and releases to the media the profit and attendance numbers of each major league team.
The highest grossing team in Major League Baseball is the New York Yankees. It is the most profitable team because of its local and cable television deals, national network exposure, and an average yearly attendance of over $3 million. Other high grossing teams are: the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, and the Chicago Cubs. Like the Yankees, these teams have nationwide appeal, a huge local fan base, and a local television and cable network.
Major League Baseball has a revenue sharing agreement to maintain competitive balance in the league. The highest grossing teams share revenue with the lowest grossing teams.
