The cause of the crash was not immediately known to investigators. There was snow on that night that authorities believe may have been the reason. Additionally, a report from the Civil Aeronautics Board indicates that at the time of the crash the plane was in good working condition. Among the areas of review, the report indicated that:

*No evidence of in-flight structural failure or control failure
*The landing gear was rectracted at the time of the crash
*No evidence of engine malfunction
*Broken blades indicated that the propellers were working until it reached the ground
The conclusion of the report stated that the error lied in communication to the pilot. The pilot should have been notified of flash weather warnings about the impending snow but was not told at the time of take. If the pilot, Roger Arthur Peters, had been aware of the situation he probably wouldn't have flown the airplane that night.
