I also found that going to the shooting range and doing some target practice can relieve stress. Shooting firearms (or even a bow) accurately forces you to concentrate on your target and technique to the point of pushing other concerns to the back of your mind. Pulling the trigger or releasing the arrow, and then being rewarded with hitting the target gives you a bit of satisfaction. It's basically a Zen exercise.
I also use deep breathing exercises whenever I find that I am stressed out, having problems falling asleep or really stuck on a frustrating problem. If you simply close your eye, breath deeply and slowly, and will your heartbeat to slow, it can be surprisingly relaxing and refreshing. A few minutes of this can help you to escape from daily pressures and clear your head enough to make calm rational decisions.
Finally, I suggest managing your caffeine and stimulant intake. You need only look at my avatar to know that I love coffee, but I am careful to limit how much I consume and when. If I'm having a rough afternoon and go and drink a couple of cups of coffee to "stay sharp", I find that my perceived stress goes up. The caffeine can make you jittery or excitable, and that makes it harder to avoid stress behaviors. A frustrating problem is more likely to increase my pulse if I'm amped up on caffeine.

M$Yoga and meditation are good things for stress.
Think about good things that happened to you.
Look on the lighter side of things.
Read a good book.
Often in streesful situations one turns to the almighty.
For an acute stressful situation - a couple of deep breaths may work wonders.

This also relaxes you thus making you feel more calm so that you would be able to deal with any situation that comes your way.

M$You will first need to identify the things in your life that is causing the stress. This can sometimes be difficult to identify. As soon as you know what is causing the stress, you will be more likely to handle it easier. Keep away from negative people who can sometimes cause your life to be stressful. Exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet. Listen to relaxing music such as jazz or nature sounds.
