What type of math do we use daily?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

@vaca,

I agree with @kerryk's answer. What type of math one does use daily depends on what he is doing everyday. If he is just an ordinary person then he's expected to use the fundamental operations only which are the addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. If he is a math instructor or professor then we can expect that he does the math subject that he is teaching to his students – well it maybe algebra, trigonometry, geometry, calculus and more. If he's an engineer then he should be doing the math that most engineers use. It should fit to the person’s daily activities and business. As for me, I use the most basic math which is the addition and subtraction. I also use multiplication and division but not too often unlike the first two.

It all depends on what a person does every day. If you are talking about the average person that does not workin a math related field, then basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, divison, possibly involving fractions, percentages, basic algebra and geometry are used. If you are in a technical field or are a math teacher, accountant, etc, you might use statistics, calculus, trigonometry and more advanced courses as well. I would say that most people can get through every day life with a math education similar to someone in 8th grade. With the use of calculators today, people can get by with even less than that. I don't suggest someone not knowing any math, though. It's always good to expand one's knowledge base and learn as much as they can.
