What tools or methods can I use to help transform myself into a super-organized person?

I am not a terribly disorganized person or anything but neither am I particularly well organized. Lots of stuff I need to get done just keeps getting put off or forgotten about so I often end up simply muddling through the week. Tips or advice are very welcome!

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I had a day planner, but had trouble taking it with me all the time and writing things in it regularly. I just got a Samsung Omnia (PDA / Smart Phone) and I haven't missed a beat in my busy schedule. Anything I've written in there, I've taken care of, ahead of time. It does so much, and is so advanced, that it's more like a toy than a chore. I love it. I got Christmas shopping finished early this year for the first time ever. I got my wife the things she said she had wanted a long time ago, and she was surprized. I am on the verge of putting in all of my friends / family member's birthdays in it so I can remind myself to call and send cards ahead of time. There is very little limitation to what these things can do. I saw a news segment that shows a function of the Google phone (T-Mobile)... That thing scans bar-codes on retail items, takes your GPS location, and comes back and tells you where to go get the cheapest one within a given radius of where you are. My phone not only has a calender/planner, email, video camera, but it scans business cards and puts them straight into my contact list without me ever typing a letter. It also has a GPS for navigation!!! Remember, I'm not even an organized person. Get one of these things, and its like an instant brain straightening. Verizon will charge you extra because they require that you purchase unlimited internet with a smartphone. No matter to me. I save so much time and money using it, it more than makes up for the extra cash... My company also gives me a cell phone discount. Good Luck - P.

If you have some money from the holidays and you really want to get organized, get a Franklin Covey planner system. I'll admit they are pricey, but they help a ton. I'm also not naturally organized, and having planners has always helped me.

Of course, if you don't have a TON on your plate, you could just get a normal planner. The nice thing about Franklin Covey is it comes with tips on getting organized.

Regardless of where you get a planner, the key is to write down what you need to get accomplished, preferably assigning particular times to particular tasks. Perhaps you can also set up a reward system for yourself -- if I accomplish everything this week, I get... whatever is a good reward for you, maybe a hot bath :).

Giving things specific times helps with not putting it off and writing it down helps with not forgetting.

I hope this helps! Please clarify your needs/what kind of stuff isn't getting done and I'll clarify my response. :)

Make-it impossible for you to not do those things. Give your mother, father, sister, girlfriend, boyfriend all the money that you have, and if you have to do 7 things, you'll be receiving your money in 7 rounds. If you don't do one thing, he or she gets to keep the money for that specific thing.

Then you should sign up for the Idea Pak. It's good to keep a daily to do list, and a calendar. This should help you on the path to getting organized!
