It seems the top boxers and racing car drivers earn the most from the sport itself. But top golfers earn a huge amount from endorsements, making their overall earnings much higher.
But the amount a player can make from endorsements has as much to do with their marketability, good looks, public image etc as with their sporting achievements.
For example, in women's tennis, it's the players with supermodel looks that usually make the most money, not the ones that win the most tournaments.
