What speech to text translation software is available at a reasonable price? Preferably web-based?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

What is needed? Is this just for creating documents or is it also needed for control of the computer itself?

If you have Microsoft Office, it does speech to text.

Me I am partial to Dragon naturally speaking.. costly yea from the manufacturer's web site (nuance) but ebay may have some copies cheaper...

I have tried a few of these text to voice programs I have been a freelance content writer for a few years and well I hated typing up to 10,000 words a day making a living, so dragon became my friend. Now days since i discovered Mahalo I no longer write for other sites, and my dragon is helping me to write a novel quicker than I thought.

One free option is to use Google Voice, where it will transcribe voice messages sent to a phone number you setup.

The best software is supposedly Dragon Naturally Speaking, which you might be able to find discounted or a lite version.

Below are some other options via Lifehacker.
