What size engine does the Aston Martin have?

What size engines come standard in Aston Martin cars? Does Aston Martin feature a car with a race car engine or can you get a customized engine package for any of its cars?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

As with all vehicles, the size and type of engine on any given Aston Martin will depend on the specific model that you're talking about. However, there is no real option to customize what type of engine you get in each of their models. The Aston Martin DB9 comes with a 5.9 liter V12 engine that was designed by the engineers at Aston Martin with the assistance of the Ford Motor Company back in the early 2000s.

The Aston Martin DBS has a similarly sized engine, but produces more power. The company's newest car, the four-door Rapide, also comes with a V-12 engine, but with a slightly higher displacement of 6.0 liters. The most exclusive Aston Martin, the One-77, of which only 77 will be built, also has the largest and most powerful engine - a 7.3 liter V-12.

The Aston Martin Vantage is the only car that comes with a choice of 2 engines: a 4.7 liter V8 engine or a 6.0 liter V-12 engine. Naturally, the V-12 model costs quite a bit more. The company also has a microcar in the works, called the Cygnet. It is derived from the Toyota IQ and is powered by a 1.3 liter engine that they claim delivers a fuel economy of 58.9 mpg.

You can't get "customized" engine packages, but some models are available with multiple engine options. If you buy an Aston Martin Vantage, you can choose between the V8 Vantage and the V12 Vantage. The V8 engine is 4.7 litres and the V12 is 6 litres. However, all other Aston Martin models come standard with V12 engines (with the exception of the Cygnet, which has a four cylinder engine). This includes the DB9, DBS and Aston Martin Rapide models. Even the One-77 has a V12, though it's larger than the others at 7.3 liters.

Now you can't get an Aston Martin road car with a race car engine, as that would be illegal. However, you can buy a track-only Aston Martin race car. Models like the Vantage GT4 are designed specifically for racing and aren't street legal.
