What should I do with it?...

I have a spare tank, was used for fish, now upgraded to a larger tank, but want some ideas for what to do with this one, as is an ok size. I dont mean just fish, just anything, wild wacky or crazy!

Specs:

5mm Glass

(External Dimensions)
Width - 1218 mm (48 inches)
Height - 305 mm (12 inches)
Depth - 255 mm (10 inches)

Similar in size as the pic but without the black edges....

Steps to making a unique and entrancing conversation piece:
-Mount many incandescent light bulbs underneath the bottom (My guess, for this scale, you'd want about 100 watts per gallon. You'll have to adjust as necessary; I recommend initially running this on a Triac to begin with so that you can adjust the power until you find the right level.)
-Fill tank 1/4 with canning or candle wax (you can add candle dye
-Fill rest 3/4 with distilled water (you can add canning (sometimes called pickling) salt to adjust the specific gravity of the water solution)
-Add a bit of food dye of your choice to color the water
-Cover with a non-airtight lid (you don't want a build up of pressure causing the tank to break and spray hot liquid on you)

Ta-da, instant jumbo lava lamp! Because it's long and narrow, it's much more interesting than just a vertical tube. You can employ hotspots, or you can try to homogenize the heat as much as possible and see how the lava flows. You can probably even get some circulation if you heat on the left and let it cool on the right.

The second source link has lots of information of the specifics of mixing the liquids.

This isn't too crazy, but my friend turned her old aquarium into a terrarium with live plants. If you want crazy, maybe you could put some of those venus flytraps or other bug-eating plants in there and throw 'em a few insects when friends come over.

This is interesting, I like the idea ... not too crazy, but it could look really nice!

Go with the 70s. Get a couple of fans and put inside - with a lot of polystyrene balls (used to stuff beanbags). Put a lid on it.
Then cycle the power to the fans in a random way. Maybe rotate them a little too. So you get an interesting distributions of styrene balls. It looks great.
Then add some lights below and or behind for mood lighting.
Fantastic.... (Can't find a pic though...:-()

This sounds like a lot of fun, I wonder if there was a way of putting a 21st century twist on it!

You could use it as a filter aquarium. Add a ton of plants and some lights and pump water between your two aquariums. The plants will add oxygen to your water and help filter out bad stuff.
Electrochemistry on large objects also comes to mind, if the silicone seals can handle the chemicals.

Not a filter, not interesting enough for me ;) ... I like the electrochemistry idea, but with small kids, I wonder how safe it would be, fumes etc
