What should I do if I notice a salon is not sanitizing their combs and scissors?

I had to sit at the salon for a while and I noticed a beautician using the same scissors and comb on two clients in a row without washing or sanitizing them. What should I do?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hello Lauragin,

Yikes! I would stay away from that salon, simply because if they don't care about smaller things like scissors, imagine what else they might be neglecting to sanitize. This can be a serious violation if they go on all day in the same manner.

Look up DOH, or Department of Health in your city. In New York we have a hotline, simply 311, for all city issues, and many cities have the same service. If your city doesn't have that, you'll find the DOH by going online and entering your city or county name dot gov (.gov). They will probably have a FAQs page telling you how to anonymously report it. Then an inspector will visit the salon unannounced, and take appropriate action.

Hope this helped.

I would have pointed this out, and when it was my turn to get my hair done, I would mention that I don't wish to have my hair done, unless the scissors and combs etc. are sanitized. If there was a salon manager, I would of told them about it.
