What should a driver do if they run over a pet?
Should a person contact their insurance provider if they run over animals in the road? Can a person be fined if they don't report running over pets and animals in the street?

If you run over a pet in your car, you should pull over to the side of the road, move the pet out of the roadway if at all possible and call the police. You should not move a pet unless you can do so in a sanitary way. An animal can have diseases that are harmful to humans. When the police arrive, treat the accident as if you hit a person. The police will have latex gloves and will be able to better examine the pet to find out if it is a stray or if it has a home.

You have to stop.
You cannot just hit someone's pet and drive off. If you do, you could be cited for cruelty to animals and even take (taken {sic}) to court for it.

You should contact your insurance provider if you run over a pet in the road. The owner of the pet may try to contact you to find out if you have insurance. You should always let an insurance company handle pet injuries and pet injury claims. If you run over a wild animal large enough to damage your car, you should report it as your auto insurance company will likely cover any repairs your car needs.
Whether or not your local humane officer will fine you if you don’t report the accident will depend on your city or state’s laws regarding those sorts of accidents. Most of the time, police departments regard these types of incidents as unavoidable accidents and won’t fine you a large amount of money as long as you report the accident. If you hit a wild animal large enough to damage your car, you won’t be fined but should report the incident both to your insurance company and the local police department.
