What safety measures should be taken when trick or treating with a special needs child?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Reflective tape on the bottoms of the costume. You can also place it on the back of their costume so they are seen coming and going.

A glow stick tied onto their trick or treat bag to make them visable to traffic and other people.

They make cute little necklaces that blink and flash and those are awesome to make the child noticed.

Have fun and enjoy the evening with your little one.

Stay close to the child and only cross the street at the corners.

It depends on the child and how much assistance they need. I would recommend having an adult go with just to keep an eye on them. It is a good idea to have an adult supervise children while trick or treating even if they do not have special needs.

Age is also a factor. If they are old enough to be fairly independent, then they would probably be ok going with a group of friends. Overall I would say error on the side of caution. It is better to be too safe, than not safe enough.
