What "retro" item will never go back in style?

We've all seen it: the trend that returns having been rejected for a decade or two. It happens everywhere: in fashion, science, technology, and even politics. Some things, though, may not have this opportunity. In your opinion, what one thing will never go back in style?

If neon comes back into style from the 1980's, I will be stunned and surprised.
These colors are guaranteed to wash out even the most beautiful deep skin tones!

*I apologize if the photo hurts your eyes

I think that picture is from present day, judging from the car. I see kids wearing similar neon stuff all the time.

Excellent site, keep up the good work. I read a lot of blogs on a daily basis and for the most part, people lack substance but, I just wanted to make a quick comment to say I’m glad I found your blog. Thanks

Ow!! Owww!!! It HURTS! It HURTS!!!

Bunny, why would you?

Hehe, but seriously.... I remember being a very little girl, and thinking neon colours were sooo prettyyy.....

And yes. In some places, this and a variety of very wrong things are definitely already back.... but perhaps haven't completely taken over the whole world yet. I'm trying to think of some 80s things that haven't come back at all yet.... there isn't much....Flat-top hair on guys, maybe? So many young guys still seem to have the longish flat hair happening.

Sadly, I agree with @demanda - I see the neon already coming back as well here in North Texas. It's pretty horrid.

Wow... you really can't look at this pic for long - it's like looking into the sun...

Also, let's hope the sunglasses pictured above don't come back. How many traffic accidents were caused by the genius wearing THOSE specs??

One more side question: Did any of you girls cut your shirt open so everyone can see your chest? That's a new one on me, but i've been sheltered... Wtf??

I am not sure what is worse: the colors or the fact that this girl discovered a way to wear both her bra and her shirt on the outside! Trashy, yet interesting.

Ahhhh Ohhhh Ahhhh Ohhhh me puts big fun in me Toyota Prius..me puts a retro item that will never come back in style in me Prius,

Me puts a Holley 0-4780C Model 4150 Double Pumper 800 CFM Square Bore 4-Barrel Mechanical Secondary Manual Choke New Carburetor in the Prius and make go vrooooom vroooooom

Going back to gallons per mile will never come back in style, people are far to wrapped up this "miles per gallon" to remember the times when filling the 20 gallon tank twice in a day was common.

Although a tricked out Prius with a massive fuel dumping Holley Carburetor would be a fun bit of irony in deign I do not feel it would ever be in style to put the Holley on the motor and go 200% against the basic ideals of the conservative fuel sipping Prius. I think it would be funny but nothing I do is ever in style.

Interestingly, you can see influences of 80s fashion nowadays (take scene fashion, for instance). Anytime a generation starts getting into their 20s and 30s, their particular time period will influence consumerism in its own specific way. I always thought it was interesting that "peace love and happiness" was so popular in the 90s - well, the people from the 70s were growing up and running the place. :)

Qualludes. They don't make the real 714's anymore. But worst of all what you will never see again is real American muscle cars. And as long as you mentioned politics you will never again see the blind faith in politicians that people had in the days of innocence in America. You will also never again see all the species that have gone extinct or possibly clean air again.

Something I would love to see come back in style, but don't think will, is the wonderful, make-your-heart-feel-glad TV shows that came out when TV was new, such as: "I Remember Mama", "Lassie", "Sky King", "Rin-Tin-Tin", etc.

Does anyone remember putting a stick-on sheet of clear plastic on the TV that had brown tint on the bottom, green tint in the middle, and blue tint on the top? Since the TV's were B&W, this made it look (a bit) like color. How about "interactive" TV when it first came out? You put another similar plastic on the screen and you could color on it with crayons.

Such simple pleasures will never come back in style.

Retro items are faddish. Things that have been in style at one time come back from time to time. Retro items that will never come back in style are one's that involve safety issues. For instance: let's say a pair of boots that have such ridiculously high heels that a person could fall and seriously hurt themself. Thus, things which involve safety issues which put people in danger should never go back in style. Otherwise, I can't see any other reason why a person shouldn't be able to sport a style from a different era!

While I am sad to say it, the Drive-in movie theater could be considered as a retro item. While there are still some in the United States, most are kept up by donations, not ticket sales. Too bad, I would love to see drive-in movies on a regular basis.

I miss drive-ins, too. I don't go to the movies, but I definitely would go to the drive-in if there was one around. I loved the freedom of being in my car, in my own private little world rather than in a movie theater. Bring back the drive-in.

We love the drive-in, there's one close by my house and they are packed every nice spring, summer and fall night.

I think it's a tragedy that we don't have drive-in theaters like we once did.

Since I love history, I'm going to say catapults and traditional knights armor.

From a more recent period I'll go with baseball cards cloths pinned to bike so spokes make a cool noise when you go riding.

Beehive hairdos.

(This is 4 things. If I had to pick one, it would be the Beehive hair.)

The list could go on and on, but my official entry is *drum roll please* - Tight rolled jeans, complimented wonderfully with a pair of Eastland shoes. I can't imagine that style ever making a come back, but then who knows - we seen the bell bottom come back (love it), those nasty rompers that should have been banned and then burned, insanely ugly prom dresses and even the mullet as mentioned above.

Still though, I stay with the tight rolled jeans and Eastland shoes.

For those who would like to relive this moment in fashion, here's how to tie an Eastland knot.

I'm sorry for the Hair Family photo, but when I ran across it I simply could not resist.
