What printing equipment does places like LuLu.com use to print books on demand?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

My searches found unofficial forum and blog speculation about sub-contracted printers that change with proprietary software that is being constantly developed that may differ by geographic location. Of course blogs are not necessarily accurate but sometimes they may be the best answer you can find. I can understand why a company would not officially list their printer names so that they can be read by everyone, if they are always changing and developing custom software in different locations.

If Lulu.com is typical, then every print on demand company could be using completely different printers with their own custom software. You would need to check with each one individually if you were wanting to find a certain type or brand of printer I would guess. Here are links to 32 print on demand companies internationally from publishersglobal.com they also have links in the sidebar to 273 different printer suppliers, 541 printer equipment suppliers and 11 offset printer suppliers and 469 software suppliers when you need details on those. Hope that helps.
