Listing a quality car such as a Mercedes on Craigslist is not in my experience advisable. You will be literally deluged by every cheapskate used car dealer, time waster and conman in your entire state, if not several others and probably some members of the Russian mafia for good measure. There are however precautions you can take. Firstly keep the vehicle documents and registration separate from the vehicle. Secondly always show the vehicle when you have some one with you. Thirdly never under any circumstances hand the keys of the vehicle to a potential purchaser, or allow them to get in the car by themselves to start the car up. Always make sure the vehicle is parked in such a way that it will be difficult for it to be driven off suddenly and at high speed. You could for example park another car behind it. If test-driving make sure you get a copy of the license of the potential buyer and WATCH them at all times. Avoid asking them into your home if possible and if making cash transactions, do so in a bank or with other people you know present. As for me I sold my used E-class to the Russian Mafia. They gave me cash and a knowing wink.
