What piece of music evokes the most nostalgia for you?
My own is Laura Nyro's version of "Gonna Take A Miracle" which came out just as I had finished a long time on the road hitching the world, and at the end of a great love affair. I wasn't sure which of those I would miss the most.

Sinatra came out with his version of New York, New York in 1982 and every station was playing it. Stations like Z-100 and competitor WPLJ would even play it back to back with Madonna's Holiday, her first song, which had just come out. New York, New York became a staple at every Bar- and Bat-Mitzvah I went to, including my own (1984). The song reminds me of being a kid. And it's likely why I love Sinatra today.
For some reason, I want to say the first one is live in the round --listen to the crowd--that's no club.
And when he did the Duets album and did the song with Tony Bennett, what a combo...Ol' Blue Eyes still belted out that song.

M$It reminds me of a great time in my life. It represents my favorite music (the 80's). And it reminds of a time where I had a crush on this nice girl. It reminds of when all the planets were in alignment for me...

M$1. "Joy to the World" (Jeremiah was a bullfrog)....originally by Hoyt Axton, also performed by Credence Clearwater Revival, and made famous by Three Dog Night. I remember my mother singing this song ALL of the time, and the lyrics don't really make any sense, which made the song even sillier to me as a kid.
2. "Walk Like an Egyptian"...The Bangles It was yet another song that was silly in nature and didn't make a lot of sense, but my friends and I loved to dance to this. (They also played this song a lot at the skating rinks.)
3. "La Bamba"....adopted by Richie Valens. I had no idea what the lyrics to this song were actually saying, but the movie was on hit, and the beat was too, too fun.
4. "I Want Your Sex".....George Michael. This song became popular at about the time when it was embarrassing for my parents when this song came on the radio, and it was intriguing and exciting for me and my young friends. ("Oh my goodness, did you hear that, Jennifer, he said SEX!! Can people say that on MTV??" This video, of course, opened the door for so much more in the world of MTV.)
5. "You Remind Me of Something"....R Kelly (OK, I am not going to explain the memories behind this one, but it is still VERY, VERY nostalgic...in a good way.)

M$It was love at first sight, and it only took a couple of weeks for my future husband to propose!!!
Every once in awhile I still hear that song, and it brings back a lot of memories.

M$A bit too long for a Best Answer. But thanks for the clips.
Oh wow..."Turn Back Time" and "Unchained Melody"......THOSE are definitely nostalgic for me too...and I get in a Patsy Cline mood every now and then too...but my personal fave of hers would have to "Walkin' After Midnight."
Why? These songs are equally nostalgic to me.
I knew that Six Pence just remade it, but I prefer their version better. The song is from the 80s, so I included it.
Don't Dream It's Over - is that the original artist? I think of he Crowded House version (Mid 80s?). That and "Don't You Forget about Me" by Simple Minds, and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears scream "80s "--and I was a top-40 on-air personality from 1990 to 1993, and these three songs often made it into the spot in my playlist where I could pick a song. All three songs are still played today every so often.

M$1. Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn:
When I was a little boy(back in the late 90's) I used to listen this song on the radio everyday. I think I had a little puppy crush on Natalie back then. But listening to this song right now makes me both nostalgic and bittersweet. It's nostalgic because it brings me back the memory of my childhood. Bitter, because I can no longer go back to my childhood. And sweet, because it is such a beautiful, emotional, and catchy song!

2. The Anime "Slam Dunk"'s opening song.
This song is incredibly nostalgic for me. Because When I was little Slam Dunk was my favorite manga and anime. I used to watch this anime everyday with my cousins and friends. This anime inspired me to love the game of basketball. And I love this song!

3. Theme Song of the Kung Fu series "Tian Long Ba Bu"
Being that I spent my childhood in China, I've always loved Kung Fu drama. And the 1997 series "Tian Long Ba Bu" was probably one of the saddest series I've ever watched. And every time I listen to this song I think about the tragic hero of Xiao Feng, who sacrificed himself to maintain peace between China(song Dynasty) and the northern Khitan tribes.

4. Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway."
This song was(and still is) one of my favorite songs. I love Kelly's voice and the message of this song. I think I was in 8th grade when I first heard this song. And it has been a really inspirational song for me ever since.

5. Norah Jone's "Sunrise"
Such a beautiful song, amazing voice, "surprise, surprise, couldn't find it in your eyes, suprise, surprise, never something I couldn't hide." is one of my favorite lines. I loved this song when I was in middle school and I still do now.

M$When I became of age to date (16) I had a date to a concert out of town with a most special guy (the love of my teen life). We saw and heard several bands that night but 3 Dog Night's song Black & White brings back great memories of holding hands and kissing and feeling like we were in another world, another time!
