What parts of Plato's Republic discuss Education and how can they be related to modern society?

the prompt says the essay should explain how one individual, or group of people in the Republic understands the moral intuitions, what the implications of this understanding are for the society to which they belong, and how this understanding conforms or contradicts with the social imaginary of a society to which you belong. HELP PLEASE!!!

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Here is the basic outline of how plato felt education should be done. I found this on Ehow which has a decent discussion of exactly this topic http://www.enotes.com/platos-republic/q-and-a/how-does-plato-describe-education-his-republic-his-5625

"Until 18, basic intellectual study and physical training
Followed by 2 years of miltary training
Followed by ten years of mathematics
At 30, five years of dialectic
Followed by 15 years as leaders, trying to 'lead people from the cave' (note, this is figurative, not literal)
Upon reaching 50, they are fully aware of the form of the good and totally mature - ready to lead!"

It would appear to me that if this was the way people were educated and then became leaders it would have serious implications for the society governed by these people. 10 years of mathmatics! 2 years of military training! It would produce a group of people who thought they were well rounded but not actually that well rounded there doesn't seem to be any social sciences taught, how to deal with people from a cultural and posychological perspective is important in leadership.

It would be difficult for me to explain this and would take pages, but I found a link that seems to have the answers you are looking for. Hope it helps.
