What natural beauty do you prefer to live near?

Maybe it's by a mountain, river, forest, ocean, desert? Other?

What attracts you to it?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I really like where I live now in a forest of tall Red Oaks, beautiful Maples, snobby White Birches, singular lonely Beech trees, the occasional weeping Willow Tree, and swaying pines of several different varieties in southern New Hampshire. The wind from leftover from a tropical storm is having fun quickly waving the trees right outside my window right now, two acorns just feel from an oak and hit my roof like a quick dud-dud. I have a pond in my backyard and a river that is just over a mile from my front door and I really like the natural setting of southern New Hampshire.

I am about an hour from Lake Winnipesaukee, the mountains of the White Mountain National Forest, The Green Mountain National Forest, the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, about an hour from the bustle of Boston, Massachusetts, and about an hour from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean from Maine to Cape Cod and to me this is about perfect.

And then there is the foliage :)

omg I wish..

the top photo in my answer is of Lake Winnipesaukee and the foliage there, the second one down is of the river I live right near and the bottom one is an example of one of the varieties of evergreen trees we have here and what the rocky granite forest floor looks like in most places.

but I did just take the photos in this Flickr set this morning while walking my dog. They are not from the best camera but show the type of natural setting my neighborhood is in. :)

A place with such natural beauty that if forces those walking to the front door to stop and ponder the vista. A place with old growth trees and rocky outcroppings. A place where lakewaters nestle between the gentle slopes of hills, outstretched green fingers dipping into a blue reflection of blue skies. In the skies, pelicans take flight. Their feathers reflecting silver in the sun. Deer and fox stroll about curious but unafraid. Monarch butterflies on their yearly quest to and from their Mexicans wintering grounds dance among wildflowers and gem-tones hummingbirds dart searching for their nectar. There is no sound but the wind rushing through cedars and oaks and the occasional call of a hawk as it floats on a carpet of air.

Welcome to my place of paradise. No one can “own” such beauty. I am just the fortunate current caretaker.

On a lake in Green Country / northeast Oklahoma.
