There were and still are several Native American tribes throughout the state of New Mexico. Several Apache tribes lived throughout most of the state. There was a small Comanche tribe in New Mexico, though the majority of it was in the state of Texas.
The Pueblos were in the area surrounding Albuquerque. The Navajo were a large group in northwestern New Mexico. The Ute was located in a small area of the upper northwest part of the state. The Zuni tribe was just south of the Navajo tribe. Another small tribe was made up of the Jocome, Jano and Suma tribes, located in the boot heel of New Mexico.
