What movie sequel did you find as good or better than the original?

Almost every time you leave a theater after seeing the sequel to a movie you are bound to hear another viewer say "the first one was better." It's time for some of us to hear "Wow! That was so much more awesome than the first one!" So let's hear it. What movie sequel did you like better than the original movie?

My vote: _Dark Night_ as the sequel to _Batman Begins_. This sequel had all the Batman loving action and plot of the first, but with a fantastically realistic and creepy Joker. Sorry Jack Nicholson, you've been upstaged.

There are a lot of great sequels out there, but I think one that totally surpassed the original was "Terminator 2: Judgment Day." While the film did pump up the action and special effects, it also retained a sharp sense of the drama going on. It gave the sequel this terrific (and rarely achieved) balance. Don't get me wrong, the first "Terminator" is a great movie in it's own right - by today's standards it almost looks like an independent film - but I always felt it wasn't fleshed out enough, maybe being too busy trying to setup the whole Sarah Connor/John Connor future storyline. Plus, I mean, T-1000...enough said.

My vote would go for the original, "Dawn of the Dead." Whie I would not say that it was better than, "Night of the Living Dead," I would say that it was on par as one of the best horror movies of all time, and an equal to, "Night of the Living Dead."

Not only did, "Dawn of the Dead," give zombie fans a new movie, a new set of characters, but it also gave zombie movies a new direction. "Dawn of the Dead," gave us, "theme zombies." For the first time, we have a movie where there are particular zombies that we remember forever after seeing it. Who is going to forget the Hari Krishna zombie? Who is going to forget the nun? Who is going to forget the escalator zombie? This set a tone for all future zombie movies, Every zombie movie since then has had a handful of zombies that we remember because of their differences.

Don't forget, it gave us a completely differnt way of looking at malls!

Hands down the best is "The Godfather II".

Wow. The best in any series made for the movies.

As a Batman fan, I do agree that the Dark Knight was an amazing performance/sequel to Batman Begins, granted that it was also creepy that Heath was at his best knowing the fact that he passed away.

I have to share a couple more sequels that I totally love that I know blows the previous movies:

1) Empire Strikes Back as sequel to Star Wars: A New Hope
2) LOTR: Return of the King as sequel to LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring

I guess for me it would be a three-way tie!

I am particularly fond of "The Blair Witch Project 2". The first one seemed to take too long to develop the plot, but the second one did not have to waste time with establishing a back story so it jumped to the action faster. And I am a huge fan of the 1st person filming.

There are many movies if ye're talking for having good sequels-

# Resident Evil Apocalypse
It preceded the first movie by ACTION, THRILL & Alice's Powers and Look. Other sequels are good but mere XAGGERATION of Alice's Powers!

# Underworld Rise of Lycans
It aint sequel but its like a flashback for Vamp-Wolf medieval history!

X2: x-men United was much better than the first X-men film. The addition of Nightcrawler was great, there was a lot more action, had good villains, and it left us with a nice cliffhanger.

Gremlins 2: The New Batch (June 15, 1990)
http://www.movieretriever.com/images/partner/blogs/gremlins_two_the_new_batch_ver1.jpg

Two reasons. First, never has a movie sequel so completely, so absurdly deconstructed its original source material. Joe Dante, director bravely chose to use Gremlins 2 to out-and-out mock everything that was earnest, over-serious, and melodramatic about the first Gremlins, and the result is hilarious. It's a Warner Brothers cartoon version of a monster movie and John Glover's performance alone is enough to love it. The second reason? Lack of competition. Every other sequel in 1990 was either an unsuccessful rehash of a much better film or a complete disaster.

I thought Iron Man 2 was a lot better than the first one. And Mickey Rourke did an excellent job.

Rocky III was WAY better than the first two movies. It took the bold move of showing the 'hero' more frightened and vulnerable than he had ever been before. The choice to have his former nemesis, Apollo Creed, teach him how to actually Box rather than just try to depend on sheer determination to beat a superior fighter, was brilliant.

I don't really care for sequels much, with the exception of the aforementioned, and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,

which was far more exciting than the original, and gave us one of the most perfectly delivered performances of any film, in the person of Ricardo Montalban.
