Just like many of today’s films, a lot of music in those films is rehashed junk. Believe me, I’m not opposed to bringing back Twisted Sister or the ever popular Journey to help a scene, but where is the obscurity. Where is the originality? One of the greatest things about watching a Quentin Tarantino flick is the precision he uses to select audio tracks. They’re meaningful, they’re real, and they’re spot on.
So, if you’re looking for songs and not scores, this year wasn’t offering much. But, if you’re looking for scores, I will point you in the direction of Tron. It is entirely produced by Daft Punk, and it rocks. The great thing about it is that you don’t have to have the movie to make sense of it. Playing in your car, it just rocks electronic. I’m no raver, and I can’t stand glow sticks, but I do like a good beat, and this album has plenty.
In addition, you may want to check The Social Network soundtrack. It too was helped by a musical genius in Trent Reznor.
