Syd Barrett had a personality that made him perfect to be a rock star. He was moody, sullen and withdrawn. When Pink Floyd started to become famous in the late 1960's, Barrett was a handful of pop stars to openly declare they admit they took psychedelic drugs like LSD. The effects of psychedelic drugs were a major component of the mood enhancing music they went on to create.
Sometimes people would spike his drinks when he wasn't looking.. As a result, he would exhibit erratic behavior on and off of the stage. One time he poured the entire contents of a jar of hair cream before heading out on stage. A times the musical performances would be so bad that eventually the band added a guitar player. His condition worsened to the point where he left the band, never to return to live music again.
