What memento from the early days of your business have you held on to through the years?

It's important to remember your business' roots. Some people hold on to the first dollar they make, others a piece of office equipment. What have you done to document your company's history?
Tip for best answer: M$0.00

I created an ambulance company for a community hospital and we started with one ambulance. The Auxiliary bought a toy ambulance and painted it the colors of our service. Each time we purchased a new vehicle they presented me with another toy. When we purchased ambulance number five, they got a toy ambulance that actually had a siren and made noise and painted it in the colors. I still have them all 24 years later and the siren still works!

That's great, Sandra. How many do you have? It'd be great to see a photo of the collection.

I am the Founder and CEO of LivePerson (NASDAQ:LPSN). We provide the chat solution for over 9,000 companies including most of the leading brands online. I started LivePerson in 1995 and took it public in 2000, survived, and today we have over 500 employees around the world. When I started my first company in 1991,I purchased an IKEA couch and it took on many uses including as a bed when I could not afford an apartment after I started LivePerson in 1995. I slept on that couch for two years in a small office in NYC and showered at a local health club. It was a pretty challenging and, at the same time, liberating experience.

Recently, something really funny happened. There were a few cushions missing from the couch and a guy some how found my blog and saw a picture of the couch and he had the same couch and was throwing it out so he offered me the cushions. Talk about the power of the Internet! I keep that ratty couch because it reminds me of where we came from. Here is a picture of the couch and the full story behind it. http://bit.ly/bII816

We have a MacSE on a pedestal in our conference room. It's the computer that our business was built on. It stands there proudly boasting its 20 MG hard drive, 4 MGs of RAM and its 9-inch monochrome screen.

I actually did keep the 20 euros that was payment for my first cupcake order. Funny I'm coming up on my 2nd anniversary this month and was thinking about this!

Very neat! We're collecting photos and stories about these mementos. Do you have a picture you could send us? I'd also love to chat about your early days and where those 20 euro came from. Please send me an email at ilapowsky@inc.com if you're interested!

The nameplate for my desk. Since I now work from home for the last 4+ years, no need for that anymore. My wife knows my name.

I have a shirt from each of the startups I was involved with. I worked as a Commercialization Director at an incubator for a couple years and would wear one on most Fridays, as did others there that had startup experience. Every now and then I wear one to the new company I founded, Venture Highway, and yes, the shirts are in the process of being designed!

My first Powerpoint presentation that I ever used to pitch my first start-up VersaPay. It's amazing how much one's business plan evolves from concept to commercialization!
