What medication can I take for diarrhea?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I am in no way, shape or form a doctor or a medical professional. It is recommended that you consult your doctor.

I am not sure what your diarrhea is from, but I've personally found that the best medication to stop diarrhea in its track is Imodium AD. This used to be only available by prescription. Anyone who is over the age of 20, can probably remember its taste. I know I can remember the doctor giving it to me as a child. The only issues I have with this medication is that it really doesn't soothe my stomach and if you take too much, you're in trouble. Once I had an important meeting and took the medication. After the "recommend" dosage, I wasn't able to go to the bathroom for several days.
Their website is pretty niffy. You can locate a bathroom near you or get a 2.00 off Imodium coupon.

I have found that Mylanta is the best medication for soothing my tummy aches and sour stomach. Of course, it taste awful.

Some people swear by Pepto Bismol for diarrhea, but I have little results with it. It does help my heartburn however.

I will say that from my experience with stomach viruses, sometimes it's best to just let it work itself out and not try to stop the diarrhea unless your doctor tells you too, or you are dehydrating. Which you should seek medical attention for asap. When I took Imodium for my stomach virus, it just caused me to start vomiting instead.
