M$From this cross section of the Canadian population I would say that Canadians are more creative, better educated, more intelligent, friendlier and have a lot less difficulty understand complex subjects like affordable health care and education, crime prevention and personal freedom and actual application of progressive thinking in the solving of problems than most of the Americans I know.
Oh another thing, the only Canadians I ever hear about in the American news are professional hockey players so I would have to say Canadians are less likely to quest for fame through camera seeking narcissism.

M$I as my first act of international diplomacy humbly accept this invitation and thank you for the consideration Rob. I am under the assumption that you are in good faith acting as an agent of the Governor General and will forever be hono(u)red as now I will be in the company of such dignitaries as Nelson Mandela, Raoul Wallenberg and the Dali Lama.
Buddawiggi, I would like to invite you to become an honorary Canadian :)
Myth 1. The accent. While we are all familiar with the 'eh' that gets tossed around, it can easily be found in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and North Dakota.
Truth 1. The bacon. It is not bacon, it is not ham. It is yummy, and goes great on pizza with pineapple.
http://www.karlehmer.com/ProductImages/0384_CanadianBaconLarge.jpg
Myth 2. Police wear red suits and ride horses. Only some of them do.
http://images.bcdb.com/gallery/d/318-2/Dudley_Do_Right_Horse.jpg
Truth 2. Lingering fondness for Royalty. Canada's split from the crown lacked the ire that makes most Americans jaded over the idea of Kings and Queens.
http://www.ussilverandgoldcoins.com/i//1967_Canada_Confederation_20_gold_proof.jpg
Myth 3. Only Canadians like Hockey. Much like the accent this point is shared with the northern US. Check out Denver, Chicago, and Hockeytown itself Detroit.
Truth 3. Unique sense of entertainment and comedy. From Kids in the Hall to Alanis Morissette, Canadian aesthetic is certainly hard to quantify but it is impossible to dismiss.

M$If you have never had a Peameal Bacon sandwich, it is worth the cost and time to travel to Canada :)
+1 for Bob and Doug :)
Oh my gosh, that looks delicious.
- We are for the majority, extremely polite and kind people.
- We put a lot of "u" letters within our words.
- We do say "eh" a lot (some may disagree, but half the time you don't even notice you say it)
- We pay outrageous prices for common luxury items, but will still do it anyways (cigarettes, alcohol, gas).
- We most of the time have no idea where or what Stephen Harper is doing, but know the coordinates of Obama at every minute of the day.
- We have strong, and delicious beers (Canadian, Steamwhistle, etc.)
- We can all handle the cold regardless on how much we complain about it.
- A seasonal-daily chore is removing feet of white mass off of our driveways.
- During the winter time, "snow tires" are like the number one played commercial on the radio.
- We are extremely advanced and most of the time very liberal with our laws. (gay marriage, smoking bans, decriminalized marijuana)
- Universal healthcare is very beneficial to the average Canadian, yet most of us know that the ridiculous taxes we pay better be getting us that healthcare.
- Medication of any sort is CRAZY expensive.
- We are on average more open people (do not shield ourselves to other people).
- We poke fun at different provinces, yet they accept it (Newfoundland, Quebec)
- Cross-border shopping is shocking to every single one of us (cheap prices)

M$We can't see Russia from our house.
It's very hard to convince us that global warming is a bad thing because it's too damn cold here for 75% of the year. That's why we wear fur, not because we think it's fashionable.
We have a smug sense of superiority over our southern neighbours, generally unfounded and undeserved but present none the less.
The Queen's representative in Canada, the Governor General, will eat raw seal meat on TV just to piss off the Europeans.
Here is a picture of me in my snowy backyard in my muskrat hat which keeps my head toasty warm and is in fact too warm to wear today because it isn't cold enough being just around freezing.

M$If you prefer the Universal Health Care system then yes, although it's not as favourable to the pharmaceutical companies and capitalists out there, but for the everyday citizen in Canada it works great.
Hockey "teams" that could be argued, a Canadian hockey team hasn't won the Stanley Cup since 1993. However, over 50% of NHLers are Canadian.

(A brief answer, but short of living in Anchorage, AK for six years and visiting Seattle, WA a couple of times - not a whole lot of contact with Canada...)

M$I dunno, I think Alaska is far enough away from most of the Canadian population that there are few similarities between Canadians and Alaskans...other then the snow of course..dog sledding and such.
It's the snow, not the proximity. When I visited Alaska last summer, all the natives seemed to be doing was drinking beer while watching hockey.
hmm certainly sounds Canadian

M$Alaska also has a different laws than the the rest of the US that line up more similarly to Canada.. I think I should note I am no expert on Canadian law.
I wouldn't agree that all Canadians are similar to Alaskans. Those in climates that mirror the states are more likely to be similar in behavior to those that are not, and Canada has a great deal of country side that is nothing like Alaska.
I also wouldn't say beer and hockey are "it".. more a hmm.. *looks for right words*.. more natural mind set? A Canadian or Alaskan sees a bull moose they don't see "Ooooo pictures op" they think.. "Is that in season.. steak steak hamburger steak" for example.
It's a laid back less technological more lets have a good time and enjoy what the world gave us mindset. Coincidentally.. Alaskans and Canadians also remind me of Germans and Norwegians from the same climate.

M$Truth be told I probably couldn't tell the difference unless we started arguing politics. The French influence in the language might be an indication, but then again that just might mean that they are from New Orleans. ;-)

M$Canada has the metric system, health care (big issue), it is cooler than the states, drinking age is 18 or 19 depending on the province, high octane beer, our government is elected and judiciary officials are not, and the people of Canada are more secular.
Rules are basically the same, like what goes up must come down. lol. In law, they are very similar except there is no death penalty.
As for is it cheaper? Not anymore. When the US dollar was higher, products were in line with pricing. When the Canadian dollar became close to par with the US, the prices for items did not drop.
In Canada, if you get into an argument in a bar or anywhere else, the worst that happens is you get a punch in the nose instead of a spray of bullets from an AK47.

I think you are demonstrating the difficulty of distinguishing between Canadians and Americans, because almost all of those things are found in the USA too. In fact, one state or another is proud of almost all of them.
