What makes a great LGBT wedding?

My two gay best friends really want to get married within the next year or two. They want me to be their "best man" and to help them plan it out in advance. Both of them are fairly religious and wouldn't be averse to a priest or pastor performing the ceremony. Have you been to a great gay or lesbian wedding? Have your heard or seen anything about one online? What was interesting about it? Was there a theme? Were there groomspeople? Is there value to planning a gay wedding like a traditional wedding ceremony, or should my friends make it different? What, in your opinion, would make a great wedding experience for my friends?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

If this is going to be your wedding, then you should do what you would want. I think there are certain expectations that every wedding should have such as the walk down the aisle, but the one thing you probably don''t want is for someone to be the "groom" and the "bride". In same sex weddings I've seen, the couple walks down together or from the sides and meet in the middle. Again, there are no wrong answers, but there will be some things that people expect to see in every wedding like the first kiss, the I Do's, etc. And if you're concerned that you're going to do it wrong, involve your friends. They are probably dying to help and make suggestions. Let them help make your day magical.

I would also be sure to keep an eye out for Get Married's next issue that is supposed to have coverage of a same sex wedding in their next issue. I'd go and get on their mailing list since your first issue is free to try it and it's going to have some coverage on gay weddings which is insane for any wedding magazine to even tread on. They'll have some great ideas and tips for sure. http://www.getmarried.com/magazine/

First, the difficult part. What is the budget? Two friends had a "destination wedding" on Lake Victoria, Canada among the snow-capped Canadian Rockies. Just beautiful!

For weddings a bit closer to home,
What are the couple's special place / favorite place? See if there are facilities for holding weddings there. Use a search engine to find out places available.

There are churches that recognize that love commitments are not bounded by the gender of the couple. There are interfaith ministers and clergy that would be happy to officiate at the wedding ceremony.

The best wedding day plan is one that permits the couple to enjoy the day, and not be walking trough a list of tasks which them away from the company of good friends, enjoying good food and conversation.

Just don't forget to schedule the first dance to their special song!
